The pace has slowed here in the past few days so catching up might not be such a task. Although, with a $25 Stirling gift card waiting for a home once we break last year's total post count - it could pick back up! My advice - read fast, type faster and hold on! Great shaves by the way!

This is a friendly group and one with lots of patience. Or is that patients. Well, depending on what we're shaving with it could be either or both.

Honestly, I've never noticed much difference except for possibly a subtle thickness change and the move from a split center bar to a continuous one. I find that I seem to prefer the latter, though I don't know if that is just psychological with no basis in geometry. I bought a digital caliper a while back and, sometime, should try some comparative measurements.

    Shave # 1 in November

    Razor
    : Gillette Tech
    Blade: Personna Red
Preshave: Neutrogena Skin clearing shave cream
    Lather: Proraso Green
Brush: German Boar (thanks to @RyX for sending me the brush!)
Postshave: Pacific Shaving Company Caffeinated aftershave

DE shaving is getting better and better. I had a great shave with just one very small weeper. Due to a bump in the skin already there I think. The more I shave with the blade the more I like it and the more I learn just how important angle is to getting a good shave. Back with cartridges I think you could just brute force a close shave because of the multiple blades but with a single blade you really do have to find the right angle and take your time. Speaking of time, it still takes me about 45 minutes start to finish. That's less when I first started but still feels like a lot of time.

How long does it take you masters of the blade to shave usually?

I take my time and normally do just shy of two passes. Although I've never timed it I would estimate 10-15 minutes for the whole shaving routine.

Sounds like you're getting the hang of it. Pressure and angle along with skin stretching are the key to great shaves.

I'm no master, only eleven months into my wet shaving journey, but I have come a long way. It takes me fifteen to twenty minutes from start to finish. That includes cleaning the area. Shave when you have plenty of time. No need to rush while learning.

    Good luck!

Well, I have the sad announcement that I "flipped" another one. This time, an aftershave. The Maggard Tobacco&Leather. While it felt better with my second use of it(with Barbasol), the scent of it is too strong, I believe. A reviewer for Maggard said he thought it was too "medicinal". I agree. It should be called "80%Tobacco, 20%Leather."I'm just not a tobacco man, I guess, although I did say in here that I loved the smell of my Dad's pipes. Clearly, he went for the classy-smelling tobacco. Oh well.....that's two flips in three days. Someone in here did a post saying he only wants what he likes best(or words to that effect). Really makes good sense. Or as @Sara-s might say "scents". I should have asked for just a sample of the Tobacco&Leather. We live and learn, as my Mom liked to say. Shave on, fellas.

Agreed. Southern Iced tea and Sweet tea is a completely different animal to what you get in other states. Sweet tea really means sweet tea! :p

I would say 15-20 minutes and about half of that time is spent loading the brush and building the lather.

I shave ridiculously fast now. Never timed it, but I'd ballpark 5 minutes with a DE (comparable to my old cart time), 10-15 with a straight. I started much slower and wouldn't recommend going faster than you feel comfortable, but the point is, the more that experience and muscle memory kick in, the less time becomes an issue.

The pic turned out really well, especially for using a 5S. I have a $500 camera and photo lights for my online business, yet the pic that gets the most clicks was taken w my 5S when the light was just right.
