Jumping in(no pictures yet) with my new to me Standard Razor raw aluminum. Since I have a beard, I'm only shaving my neck daily and my upper cheek about once a week. So far, the Standard is doing well. I'm enjoying the light weight yet efficient shave. Seller told me to watch out because it bites, but I've not experienced that. I'll continue with the Plissoft brush and whatever soap or cream suits my fancy - at the moment it is Proraso.

If I'm in a hurry I can nail a shave down in 10 minutes or so. However, I started shaving at night instead of morning just to give myself the option of slowing down and enjoying the process more. The "zen of shaving" as we call it. Plus, when I'm trying new things and rating them etc., it gives me that time too. When I started it wasn't uncommon for me to take 30-45 minutes or more. And even now, when I try something brand new (like when I started on straights) my time gets rather lengthy as I slow down to learn and avoid slicing my throat.

By the way, with your permission, I'm saving that phrase "Masters of the Blade" for potential use around here. Note to @Drygulch ...Might even make a good soap name for the LE meetup soap at some point. :happy088:

Synths honestly are very good. Yes, they lack the personality of a natural hair brush. But, there are a number of advantages to them, including cost. PAA does churn out some cool retro-looking products.

Always a pleasure to read your shave reports, Joseph! The software sounds amazing and the hardware is beautiful.

That's how I see the situation too. With a tub or puck of soap that is good for anywhere from one to three months of shaves selling usually for under $20, I just don't see how there are enough classic wetshavers out there to keep all the current artisans selling enough soap to stay in full-time business.

Fully agree with you and Neal....
While we all appreciate having choices, it is overwhelming how many we have. I’ve been wondering as well just how many will drop off in the next year or two.

Well, the solution is obvious. We need more wet shavers!!! So let's get out there and recruit everyone!!! :bounce017::bounce017::bounce017::bounce017:

Funny thing is...as I was reading your post, and replying, I was thinking along those lines. We need more traditional wet shavers. Therein lies the problem. Most folks look at you like you’re nuts for wanting to “shave like we do”. They’re happy to complain about high priced cart razors/refills, but continue to use them. Many guys I know use the dollar store disposables.

I keep looking for any sort of data on the number of "traditional shavers" out there. I don't know if it hasn't been studied or if it's just so obscure I can't find it. I feel like, though, our numbers are growing. That may be a false reading based on hanging around here so much, hence the outside data would be nice.

This Duke 3 was the 2nd brush I purchased and my first nice brush, money well spent as this a dense knot with very soft tips. The Nile is typical of J West razors but it is a half hollow grind.
