Oats are a fantastic choice to everyone considering them. Some of my mornings start earlier than others and on those days, I usually go for a bowl of oatmeal instead of the usual full breakfast. Nothing hits the spot like a steaming bowl of oats when the temperature drops.
I always love spaghetti nights(like tonight)....I use the healthy spaghetti(whole wheat), but especially look forward to bringing out the garlic powder and firing away!!
I have been following this thread with interest. I also switched to almond milk but still eat cheese. One thing that has been helping to me is doing a yearly full fast detox in Thailand. The basic plan is you have several 'sludgies' a day as well as colonics, massage and steam sauna. A sludgie is bentonite clay, fiber mixed with water. I usually do this for 9 days and then followed up for several days with a raw food diet. While you may question the science behind it I have done this 5 times and each time is a similar experience. You can tell when the 'detox' starts, usually, on day 4, there is a terrible smell coming from you, not like usual BO. Scub and scrub in the shower yet the smell does not go away. This same goes for my breath. It is more than just the weight loss but I can see a significant improvement in my skin and once I start eating again my energy is better than before the fast. I skipped one year and payed for it in sluggishness and weight gain. I am 56 years old now and just had my annual physical, everything checks out good but still need to lose 5 kgs. My BP and all my blood test came up great. I try to keep my consumption of carbs down and despite eating a lot of meat my cholesterol is great. While I do eat a lot of meat I also eat plenty of veggies and try to stay away from processed food. I do regular exercise too. Congratulations to all the success I read in this thread, I am more inspired to stay healthy.
I had a very rough 36 hours, my colonoscopy went fine, the problem was fasting for 48+ hours along with the constant flushing of the colon. I'm still wiped out and taking a me day.
Praise the Lord for the great outcome! I hope you continue to recover quickly. I look forward to the same experience in the spring. The prep sounds like the worst part. I had a colonoscopy scheduled for this month; however, it was delayed because I was recently diagnosed with blood clots in both lungs. (Yep, scary, but I'm doing great now.) The docs want me to finish my six-month course of blood thinners before they attempt the colonoscopy.
That's what I had to do back in September(well, last month, chuk yuk yuk)....a 2-day fast. And things STILL didn't go right(never made it to the "oval office"). I was quite weak after that fasting.
I was wondering about if the colo would be delayed for that reason. The prep is indeed the worst part.
The prep is brutal an unpleasant experience but necessary. Good thing we don’t need one every year.
Did a weigh-in tonight: July 25 at the doctor's office, I was 180 lbs (182 minus weight of clothes and pocket contents) October 11, I was 168.2 October 31, I was 165.8 Tonight November 14, I am 164.8 I have backslid twice in the last three weeks, first eating a bunch of Halloween candy just before Halloween, and lately drinking a few heavily sugar and dairy loaded Hershey hot chocolates from Tim Hortons. But even so, the weight is still slowly heading in the right direction! I estimate my ideal weight is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 150 lbs plus or minus a bit. I hope to be there by next summer.
Thanks, I am particularly pleased because I just accidentally stumbled into this whole healthier eating kick and only became serious about it as a result of the people on this forum.
Today's breakfast was instant oatmeal but not any with added sugar or flavoring. Unaltered and plain oatmeal. Mixed it with milk so it would have a little sugar from the milk. Then I had two prunes and four almonds...yes, I know, very specific, but prunes and nuts are calorie-laden and I try to count them individually. Trying to eat better in the mornings and have shelved my beloved frosted mini wheats in favor of Wheat Chex. But I ran out of Chex and moved on to oatmeal this morning.
woke up groggy and not much energy the last few mornings. realised i haven t had my morning oatmeal over the long week end. makes a difference it seems. need to stick to the routine ..
We all have our favorite cold remedies-mine is Zicam tablets(chewable or let it melt on your tongue. Course I also do the usual stuff-Halls, tea at lunch(lemon&Vit. C), water.
I made a huge mistake with the peanut-butter I just bought.....it's too high on the hygienerated(sp)oils, albeit they are vegetable oils. I might go so far as to "flip" both(it was one of those "2 for ....$" deals)and get something with partially or zero on the hygenerated oils.
I'm almost 4 months into my healthier lifestyle. My daily calorie intake typically ranges between 1700 and 1800 calories. I'm down 38 lbs, and the weight continues to come off slowly.
