It helps that @Primotenore spikes his aftershave with formaldehyde for skin preservation. It's also a good antidote for lip tingling. :D

That's a very classy travel set up, Brian. All your personalized gear is really cool. Say hello to everyone at the Bates Motel and safe travels home.

Thanks 30DC! Melody was up and running this morning. Today is a much anticipated School Field Trip to the Civic Center for a performance of The Nutcracker ballet, and lunch at The Blue Dog Cafe. It's common for kids to have that "3 O'clock" flu where they stay home from school, but miraculously feel better about the time classes let out. Not so much the case, but also not as serious as first thought. I was fairly certain she was feeling better yesterday evening when her spaghetti supper arrived. Appetite restored, but distracted by the wall mounted television with cable channels.

Less important, but appreciated; Thanks about my shave, the photo, glad I stopped for the estate sale and I do like the vintage Old Spice alternative scent, and I'll schedule a stop at the ice cream shop!

    Shave # 3 in November

    Razor
    : Merkur 23C
    Blade: Personna Red
    Preshave:
    Lather
    : Arko Shave stick
    Brush: Boar
Postshave: Pacific Shaving Company Caffeinated aftershave

I was a bit rushed on this shave so didn't get the full BBS but came pretty close. No weepers which is always a good thing! Really enjoying the Merkur 23C. Arko still feels a bit drying when I have it on. I may add a bit of pre-shave underneath to see if I can take out the drying feeling. Speaking of which...Neutrogena Skin clearing shave cream actually works very well as a pre-shave. I had several bottles of it laying around and while it's not a great shave cream by itself because it goes on clear...it does work great as a pre-shave!

I wonder if I need to change out my shave bowl though. I'm currently using a plastic one so in case it's knocked off the counter it doesn't break, but I'm not sure I'm getting as much lather as I should be. Seemed like I was getting more lather in a ceramic bowl. Any of you gents ever seen a difference between plastic and ceramic when it comes to lathering? Anyone have any lathering tips they'd like to share to achieve a good amount of lather?

How are you lathering the Arko? Did you chop it up and put in a container, or is it still in stick form? Tell us how you're loading the soap and then the steps you take in bowl lathering.

    Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Ikon Tech
    Derby Premium (2)
Yaqi Professional B&W (30mm, Cruiser Class)
    Stirling Executive Man
    Fine Platinum

For my last "comparison" before sending the Muhle R41 and Ikon Tech back to their owner I decided to do a full shave with the Ikon Tech. Decided to go with Aventus clones today for the lather and AS, LOVE that smokey pineapple accord! Staying super focused on keeping a shallow angle and and light pressure along with shorter strokes took most of the bite out of the Ikon tech. There were still areas like my chin and jawline where the shave was less then comfortable but there was no blood and no irritation to speak of. After two passes I checked my progress and decided that I needed a third pass. After the third pass the baby was in the house. My conclusion after these tests is that while the Ikon Tech is more aggressive but Blackland Dart is more efficient while being less harsh. In the direct comparison between the Dart and the R41 I would say that they are really very similar in both blade feel and efficiency and for those that wish that they make an R41 in stainless steel I would highly recommend taking a look at the Dart. I finished with a spray of Fine Platinum to keep the Aventus vibe going. Have a great weekend my friends!

    TGIF!!

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

What the.......is Rod Serling in the house? That is the MMCP in the picture and it is the razor I used. I know this because I picked it up, loaded it, and shaved right after taking the picture. I did not notice that I had the Clog Pruf in my hand. Sheeeeeeeeeshhhhhhhhhh. Well, that also helps explain the bloody mess. While I feel I have mastered the Open Comb, the Clog Pruf has been a bigger challenge. I haven't used it as much, don't know the angles as well, and then loaded the blade wrong on top of everything else. Suddenly I feel lucky not to be in intensive care receiving transfusions this morning.

Good eye! And, believe it or not, I feel a bit better about the result as I can stop questioning my abilities (other than properly loading a razor, of course). I'd worry more about my confusion over the razor being an indication of old age but then............I'm sorry..........we were talking about...........oh....coffee. Talk to you later.

I know this may sound silly or the obvious smart ass answer, but in order to generate more lather load the brush longer. Seriousy I load for at least 3o seconds, probably more like a minute, I load until my brush is saturated with thick pasty/goopy soap.
