I can't thank @twhite enough for help with rescuing the famex by making a new cap for it. Normally I wouldn't even bother but this razor just grabs your attention the way it is designed from the form to the function. If it holds true to other French razors I've used one efficient but aggressive s.o.b. of a shaver. The original cap assuming they mixed famex base plates with SOS caps was broken in pieces. The new cap should be even better than the original since twhite made it out of brass while the SOS one was some sort of zinc or pot metal. Some before it goes out to be re-plated pictures will be forthcoming once it arrives along with a few shaves.
It was a pleasure making it for you. It got my razor making juices flowing again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Unfortunately not. I had to sneak it on the machines at work. I am not allowed to do G jobs anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Tom, I appreciate when your juice flows. Used that Bound & Shagged aftershave just the other day. So how big is your home work space? Enough room for a Kickstarter campaign to put the right tools in place?
That would be tough. As I live in a residential neighborhood. I do not have the power supply required for the machine. I can only get 220 single volt. I need at least 240 or 480 to power up correctly. I would love to be able to have my own Laboratory for my mad ideas. So for now I must take my chances at work and sneak things in every year or so. Glad yo like the Bound and Shagged. It is my wife’s and mine favorite scent. Rare that we both like the same scent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Veddy veddy sexy indeed! Our mad razor scientist strikes again... I still don't see how the Nobel Committee hasn't contacted you yet....Probably Gillette money under the table kind of thing! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I know. With the prize money I can start my world domination of wet shaving. That DAMDED Gillette Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
The before pictures of the Famex with the newly machined cap done by @twhite. This thing was pretty beat up when I first got it. One repair that might still be needed is on the base plate cage. I don't know if these were supposed to be symmetrical or not on each side. This cap is better than original in it's construction with @twhite making it out of brass for starters. I plan to get in a few shaves before it goes out for plating.
That handle just screams out I belong to this razor. The only thing aesthetically that doesn't match is the flat rounded part of the shoulder. That razor wants a handle with curves all the way through, the one flat spot needs some curves or a full tapered shoulder.
