Never thought I would be where I'm at. Bout 10 months ago, I just wanted to get a shave that didn't have a staring role in horror movie.

Kind of an obvious finish this month. With the new month intro being worked on I'll try to find one of the guys in a more creative mood. Or just drunker than last month.

Thanks Jim. Two realizations from the month's experience. First - I have fewer brushes and razors than I thought. Second - I don't need to buy soap or AS any time soon.

I take that back, it sounds like you need more razors and brushes.

Agreed. Rick! You're letting down the team here! You're the one who finds great razors in the wild all the time! Now get out there and dig! Go Team Go!

Razor - Kai Captain (pain stick)
    Blade - kai-captain-razor-bladessmall.jpg
    Soap - Stirling Glastonbury
    Brush - 30 DC LE
    Post - Alum, Styptic

Well, I decided to take the decision out of the shaving gods hands tonight. With only two shaves left for the month I have a choice of razors that I haven't used and decided to get the Kai Captain pain stick in. I've already used the Feather SS and CJB so I wanted to get the Kai to make it the trifecta. And, since I have a couple of the Captain blades from Kai, I chose one of those. For the soap I let random.org pick the Glastonbury, which made me happy since it's a mutton tallow and therefore a bit extra slick. I also got the 30DC LE brush from the randomizer. Clearly, the gods seemed happy.

The first pass was really nice. I had two days growth on and the Kai was doing the usual fine job that pain sticks do dealing with that. Except for a slight feeling of drag on the blade. Nothing serious but just seemed a tad rough. I'm convinced that the Feather Pro blades are sharper by a tad and also smoother than the Kai blades. Still, I can manage this. Finished the first pass in fine shape and started the second. On about the third stroke down by my right ear I decided to go more XTG and somehow set the blade down as I was preparing to turn it. I felt it - then looked in the mirror - and realized there was a notch under the lather. No blood, just a clear notch underneath. Hmmmmm. Interesting. And, then, like a murder mystery where the victim is shot and you finally see the blood stain spread - there it came. And it was a good one. I went ahead and finished the pass to a decent enough DFS and went on damage control. Wiped the lather off, rinsed my face and found a nice little notch out of my cheek just by my ear. Nothing that will leave a scar, I think, but boy did it bleed. Clearly not letting the gods choose the razor and blade gave them a chance to have some fun.

I was able to get the bleeding stopped with alum followed by some styptic work. A little burn remains but all's well that ends with the majority of my blood still in my body. One more shave tomorrow night and I think I'll let fate decide that one all by itself.

For the earlybirds - Decadent December should be open later tonight. We have a little over 24 hours to go and this could still be a record breaking month! What a fun one it's been and I'm looking forward to keeping it going for another day!!

I picked this Dove Master's because I thought I had used it this month, but I did. Upon further review I also used a Brian Brown straight twice this month too.

Superb shave and photo. When things click, it's amazing to look back and think about what we used to find to be 'good' shaves! Keep it up :happy036:

I always enjoy your Pain Stick posts... Not because of the chance of butchery (alright, maybe a little), but because they are so unusual/interesting when contrasted with the sheer volume of safety razor posts. That's not to say I don't enjoy the others, though :happy005:
