Ok, so here we go again with this experiment . Plate 6 tonight on the Rockwell and well....by golly it left me smoother than a ___________. ( insert your own answer)
Jumped from 4 to 5 with little noticeable change but 6 is the game changer. With other blades I've used plate 4 seemed to be the magic number . Now I may have to backtrack and try all past blade choices with the 6.
Danny@Hembree got this ball rolling with his mention of knotching up the Rockwell for his shaves and I just had to see for myself.
Was this shave decadent? I'd be a liar if I said it wasn't.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's search for decadence with same set up and trying all past blades I've used on plate 4.

I decided to revive the first blade I've ever used when I took up DE shaving just 4 months back. At the time I had multiple weepers every time I used the Ying Jili blade that came with my Weishi razor. After all the advice and help from the members of the 30DC crew and some others on another forum I thought I'd go back and see if my improved skills would give me a better shave now with the Ying Jili blade. It ended up being a great shave. Just one small cut which closed really quick. The blade felt great and I got somewhere between a BBS and DFS shave. It's true, When your skills improve almost any blade will give you a great shave.

As far as the decadant piece of this...Now that my skills are at least to the point where I don't automatically get weepers when I look at a DE Blade ...every shave feels decadent due to the prep and attention I put into it. Unlike my cartridge days...I look forward to the experience. I must admit I'm getting some amazing lather from Arko now that I'm adding enough water. Another thing I did was to mix some jojoba oil in with Arko and that seems to help with the dryness factor.

I have a very busy day ahead so up early and on my way. Good thing all the hardware and software play nice together. Two passes and minimal touch ups ended in a near perfect shave. A splash of the matching aftershave and I am off to fight traffic. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Congrats on the shave! You've come to realize what many of us have - it's the technique - not the blade, or even the razor. While there will always be blades we like better than others, all of them are sharp enough to get a decent shave with. One thing most seem to agree on when it comes to blades; it's hard to beat Russian steel when it comes to sharpness, smoothness, and longevity.

Arko!! One of the finest gifts Turkey has given us! Which reminds me...I haven't used it in far too long!

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
Blade: Schick
Razor: Schick E2
Brush: JR #142 black badger
Soap: Stirling Kaboom
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Kaboom aftershave

This little razor is a handful. I think I've tamed the beast of the Micromatic but this E2 still eludes me. A couple of weepers, but nothing too bad, and a smooth shave, but this razor will bite you in a hurry. I find it so interesting that it's much more potent than any other injector I have. I like it for two days growth and use it sparingly. Should probably focus on it at some point, but that could be down the road.

Stirling Kaboom is one of their new Black Friday scents. Based on Spice Bomb by Viktor and Rolf - enjoyable, lighter cologne scent. Amazing lather as usual. I added some menthol crystals to the splash and it was pleasantly chilly.

Good shave all around. I want to thank everyone for your kindness in prayers and thoughts for my mom. Enjoy your day!

After a rather frustrating day and evening I finally made it home to shave. Time for some zen of shaving. Stayed with the Toggle and Sharp Star and switched to the Fat. This has been my top soap for a long time but I'm wanting to compare it to the Sheep from Stirling. The brush tonight was my Wolf Whiskers custom Silvertip Badger, the only badger currently in my den. I got a great load out of the brush using my usual MWF technique. Wet puck, semi-dry brush, take my time loading up. Face lather produced a super-slick and cushy lather, though not as cushy as the Stirling.

Three passes, same consistency lather every time, and the baby is in the house. Alum was just a tad warm in a few areas. I'm going to blame technique for that. I was a bit heavy handed in spots. But overall a very fine shave indeed. As to my comparison of the soaps? Well, the lather I got out of the brush at the end was extremely nice, slick, cushy, but not quite to the level of The Sheep. Still, I'm not declaring a winner until I've had several more comparisons with different brushes etc.

Today's shave took place after a very long weekend on the phone lines. It took place after midnight, but following the lead of Neal @NCoxSTL, I am declaring it to have happened on Sunday via timewarp.

The razor is a nameless but very well made copy of a Gillette Old Type. The only marking on it is the word "Versilbert" (German for silvered or silverplated). I suspect this was a rather expensive razor in its day. I think it is somewhat more aggressive than a Gillette OT. I could definitely feel blade presence as I shaved - probably closer to a Gillette New Improved than an OT. However, two passes brought me very close to BBS with only minor warmth from the alum.

Mr. Taylor's is one of my favourite TOBS scents. It has a sandalwood base with a bunch of woods, spices and citrus added. A dab of the cream on the bristles of the badger brush quickly face lathered into a luxurious mask. Ample protection for the shave, good face feeling afterwards, and the TSD splash both extended the sandalwood note and completed a decadent shave.

It was a great way to end the night, and I enjoyed putting this fine old razor back into use. Now I just need to see if I can track down any more information about its maker.
