  1. Maybe not a 'bad' puck, but definitely not a 9/10 scent wise. I made a remark on the thread about wanting to try the Valobra Fougere and next thing John had pm'ed me to say he was sending it. Very generous.
  2. Wonderful photo and shave, Rick!
  3. Forth in a row. Been a while since I tried it.
  4. Great to hear Sherri is doing better! I will continue to keep her in my prayers.
  5. Really like that B&W pic today, Jason. And that Stirling knot looks much better in your handle than in the original one!

I agree with you about the Valobra Fougere - good lather, decent performance, nice postshave feeling, and a pleasant but not overwhelmingly strong scent. Reading Joseph's comments about the scent though, I felt we were using two different soaps, and wondered if I was completely out to lunch on my assessment (my sense of smell is not fabulous...)

Yeah, I definitely never got a 9/10 for scent strength. A pleasant ferny smell but I would place strength at closer to 5 at most in my book. And the shave performance of both my Valobra soaps was decent enough but not sufficiently outstanding to make me ever bother to import another puck from abroad.

Just picked these items up on E-bay a little while ago at a good price and I do mean good price. I was mainly interested in the razor. I was excited about it being a Fatboy till the gold color hit me. Yes I think it is an Executive if the lighting is correct. I cannot wait till it gets here. It just needs a little love. The listed just stated:

3 piece Antique Vtg HALL White Ironstone Shaving Cup Mug
Gillette razor and Badger hair 200T shaving cream brush
    used condition. Please view pics.
    Dim. 3 1/2" x 3 3/8"Dia. x 4 1/2"at the handle
  7. Hello fellow shavers.

Thursday morning shave was nice, with only minor irritation on the lower neck. A good 3x3 No blood or burn just a little itching. I think I may have gotten to relaxed on this one. Need to stay focused on the job at hand instead of letting my mind wander. Don't know what others think of while shaving. Maybe of the days work to get done, or what happened yesterday. Possibly cars, motorcycles, or females, maybe? Yea, me too.
I gotta keep my mind on the job at hand. Not that it's boring, but like anything repetitive, you just run on automatic sometimes giving you time to think of other things.
I have another fine shave and very close and very nice. A top 10 shave. So if I find my mind wandering again, I'll try to bring it back to the bathroom.
Or maybe, just maybe, it is supposed to be like this?
    Automatic, with out thinking.
    Hmmm.

  11. Thanks!
It was as close, smooth and long lasting as the last 2 days, but that little itching on the neck bummed me out.:(

Meant to post this early this morning but life got in the way.

As I continue on with my blade comparison with the Rockwell , today's blade is the Gilette 7oclock Super Platunim, or black as I call it. I found it maybe a step above the Rapira in terms that I didn't require the witch hazel cleanup.
Sorry to all the Gillette SB users for my lower rating but I'm just calling it how I felt it on my face.
I've learned with experience that I now have more of a feel for a good shave and can make opinions based on my experience using these blades.
My opinion could drastically change using same blades in a different razor of course as all razors shave differently.
For those who took the time to follow this comparison , I thank you. And for those who commented on my posts during this fun experiment , I also thank you too. That's what I love about this group on the 30dc, meeting new people, sharing life stories, lots of open discussions, hardware and software reviews and shennanigans. I've learned a ton in this last year thanks to you guys. Happy shaves.
  13. Thursday evening December 6

Grand King Self Lubricating Razor / vintage Wilkinson Sword (8)
    APShaveCo Flat Top brush
    Simpsons Cafe Latte cream
Nivea Sensitive Skin After Shave Balm

    IMG_20181206_190713.jpg
Mostly the same gear again today - just a different scent to the cream and then my old bottle of Nivea to finish.

My main complaint about today's setup is that the shaving cream looks and smells like a totally scrumptious coffee ice cream while being completely inedible. (No, I didn't personally test the last part of that sentence, not even for Science. :) )

Two passes left me near BBS, then I finished with the Nivea. It's been about a year since I last used it, and I had forgotten what an effective postshave product that inexpensive commercially mass-produced drugstore balm is.

Finally, because standing at the mirror reminded me that I really needed it, I used the same gear and the leftover lather in the brush to do my semi-annual pit shave. I must say, for that purpose, the Grand King is the absolute best razor I have ever used. On both sides, one quick north-south pass left everything completely smooth with no need for touch up passes and absolutely zero irritation. Impressive!

Hope everyone has had a good week and is heading into a fine Friday and a great weekend!
  14. Nice shave, Patrick.

  15. That's about how I would rate the 7 O'clock black, Rapira and GSB too.
  16. Mmm mmm cafe latte, you sure you didn't just sneak a taste? Sounds tempting.

  18. It was a struggle, but I just reminded myself that I am on a diet and, by exercising my nearly superhuman willpower, I overcame the temptation to nibble on my shaving cream ;).
  19. Thanks John.
