After the paint brush knot I feel I'm ready to hybrid a knot, btw lots of beaver in this neck of the woods. Catching one is another story.

Sounds like a good day just the same. Free soap and all.

Love my omega boar. Almost 1 year in and its just starting to splay like I want. Lathers like a champ.

Some people soak their feet after a long day....I soak razors. Got these 3 in the mail today from an auction. After I get them up to standard they will be put into active duty.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Well you could always stand in a pan of nice hot water to soak your feet while you soak your razors and admire their shiny goodness!

If you look at the old print ads, a lot of them were about giving Dad, Son or Hubby a luxurious razor that he probably otherwise wouldn't buy for himself for Christmas or graduation or some other special occasion. So yeah, a fancy presentation case was a big part of the package, and that wasn't aimed at guys rushing in to grab themselves a new replacement razor off the shelf... The advertising reminds me a lot of the similar ads of the day for high-end fountain pens actually.

Great update, Terry. It's been a lot of fun watching you absolutely crushing it with that R41 this month!

Great Old School Decadence, Neal! I have never tried Truefitt & Hill products.

Friday evening December 7 - repeating the mini-focus

    IMG_20181203_202205.jpg

Grand King Self Lubricating Razor ca. 1945 / vintage Wilkinson Sword (9)
    APShaveCo Flat Top brush
    Simpsons Unscented shaving cream
Neutrogena Razor Defense Post Shave Lotion

Today I used my last version of Simpsons shaving cream, ending my mini-focus on this cream, the Grand King razor and a consistent brush and blade. Another great shave.

People with sensitivities who want an unscented product can do far worse than selecting this Simpsons Unscented cream. I could not detect any odour of any kind coming from it, and it has the same excellent performance as all the Simpsons creams. Easy to lather, quite slick, good protection and postshave feel, and just a little dab of the very concentrated cream goes a long way.

The shave was my usual two passes to a near BBS. No need to test for irritation with the alum. I finished with another good basic drugstore balm. I think I prefer the Nivea Sensitive, but if there was none on the shelf and I needed a balm, I wouldn't hesitate to grab the Neutrogena product.

Tomorrow I will move on to another untried razor. I expect I will bin the Wilkie blade too after nine outings.

Thanks! The 1805 is a very nice soap. A bit thirsty compared to some but once you figure it out you end up with a very slick and protective lather.

Hmmm. Tough choice. I have five I used back to back: Lavender & Vetivert, Rose & Vanilla, Peppermint & Rosemary, Cafe Latte, and Unscented. I actually like them all. If I had to rank them, I think Cafe Latte would be first, Lavender & Vetivert second, then Rose & Vanilla and Peppermint & Rosemary tied for third just barely behind, and then Unscented simply because I find none of the scent choices bother me and they do add to the shave.

    SharptoothC I bite..........

I'm looking at joy in simplicity this month. Its been a rough start but I had time for a quick shave today.

    Gillette Ball End Tech
    Feather Blade
    30DC brush
    Lisa's Natural Soap
    Aqua Velva

I picked up this Tech for the handle. I planned to repurpose it, thinking I wasn't really a fan of Tech heads. After a few uses, however, I have REALLY come to like this razor with a Feather blade. This razor would be one of my last razors standing. Just goes to show how focusing on something and spending time with it teaches you to appreciate it.

Appreciate the picture and the explanation Andrew! I'll have to try that out. This may work better for me as the slanted angle may allow me to get a better shave in fewer passes. Do you do this on all passes or just North to South?
