  1. Great shave & photo, Rick! I dug out the Proraso Red soap a few days ago for a shave. Yeah, it's mass-produced and inexpensive. Nice scent and great performance. I don't use it nearly enough, and should bring it out to play more often.

  2. A quick question for the vintage Gillette experts. Is this a complete Tuckaway set, or is it a NEW head placed in a Tuckaway box? Asking for a friend. ;)

  8. As I've said, my only problem with Clubman is that they need to change the "1810" to "1830". It was the latter year when Pinaud's perfumes were beginning to get noticed. In 1810, Pinaud had just been born. That would be something-to create noticeable perfumes before you become a year old.

  9. Another nice DECember shave. It’s hard to believe I hated MWF when I first tried it. In fact, I PIFed my first pick away. This stuff gives me decadent shaves

Very nice 3 pass shave this morning. Whipped up the last lather for this Bay Rum sample (chalk me up for another one done, @Drygulch). Love this brush as well- it has become a fave already. Chased the baby a bit with a few jawline touchups and am quite smooth. Finishing with this CL splash is always a good thing.
This was my last shave at home until the weekend. I have to leave work early today and drive Mrs. Spartan to Banff as she is getting surgery first thing in the morning. Her name is Stephanie, and if you could find a place for her in your thoughts or prayers for a successful surgery it would be appreciated. It isn’t life-threatening, but it is a procedure that will have her at home for 4-6 weeks recovering. Apparently our own regional hospital here doesn’t have the specialist who does these particular surgeries. They’ve said they want us to stay a few days to make sure there isn’t an infection etc, so we’ll be driving back Thursday morning. I then drop a bag, pick up a different one and fly out to Vancouver Thursday night. It is a meeting that I just can’t get out of as I’ve put off an earlier one. My Father in Law will be staying the week with our kids and pets and I owe him big time for staying an extra day as I fly to Vancouver.
    Have a great day all!
  14. Jason,
I wish Stephanie a successful surgery and a speedy and complete recovery.

  16. Well, Achim's site shows this razor in Nickel:

Your picture shows a different blade bank and is in Gold, but I'd lean towards it being a complete set within Gillette's usual tolerances for mixing and matching parts.

  17. Jason, my very best wishes for Stephanie to have a successful surgery and good recovery.
  18. Arko Monday, that's a thing, right?
Well if not, it is now!
MUCH improved lather! I put in more soap than I thought I would need, and it worked wonderful!

    Razor: NDC Post-War Gold Tech
Blade: Chinese Gillette Super Blue Blade (2)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Stirling Sheep
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Second shave with the Chinese Gillette Blue Blade. Not a lot of difference in the feel moving from the pre-War to post-War Tech (not that I'd expect a lot). I find myself at odds about this blade. It seems to give a good, close shave but I feel like it is definitely not the sharpest and I have to work a bit more for the results I want. Unfortunately, this also results in a bit of sting from the Alum in places.

On a different note, the Stirling Sheep sample is holding up nicely and for a lot longer than I would have expected. :)

    RazoRock XXX~~Rooney Emillion 2~~Merkur 37C~~Polsilver SI
You know you're reaching the end of a soap when you transfer the remains into another vessel.

The RR XXX you see in the picture is very thin and it didn't want to readily mash down, without breaking apart,
but Primo, not a shaver to give up, was successful. Bloomed the remanent and got a great load with the Rooney.
Lots of chatter about this Rooney and that
Rooney; heritage or not, three vs. two band.
All I can say about this one is I enjoy using it a lot and isn't that the most important factor?
The knot is smallish at 24mm, but the fan shape always seems to "work" larger.
Ergonomically, the handle and my fingers pair up well; there's plenty of grip room.
Slant today. Last slant in my den. I've mentioned it before, but I owned a glorious Hoffritz, but decided to sell it
in a hot market and got a great price for it.
Truth is, the 37C shaves exactly the same, and today it shaved perfectly loaded with the Polsilver SI.
3 passes for a not-quite BBS (BBS is nice and all, but I could not care less. It only lasts a few hours anyway)
Thayer's and XXX milk (that's just about depleted too) completed a lovely shave.
