This was my first experience with the CK-6 formula and I must say, for me it is the best I ever used. With that said, the experience could not have been better then with Cane!. It was outstanding in scent, lather, chill with mint, and post face feel. The AS had good burn/chill and I could easy see using this in the summer as well. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

How was the Kiritimati? I am going to skip tomorrow since I wound up shaving late tonight - no time in the morning today. Thursday morning I will try Kiritimati myself. From the puck it smells great.

This scent is instantly one of my favorites. The Atomic Age Bay Rum is probably my favorite scent of shave soaps and AS, and the Black Friday release of Stirling Haverford is up there, but this is right with those two, maybe even topping them. The Bay Rum is definitely there with some woodsy scents and just a hint of some lavender. Really well done, IMO. It has a lot going on, and I really enjoy it.

Thats awesome you finally got to try some Grooming Dept Matt! Their soap base is among the best of the best IMO. Scents can be subjective, but have found they change quite a bit once lathered, growing stronger or morphing into the true scent (this is especially the case with Creedence which smelled terrible from the tub and became a beautiful scent once lathered).

The availability is a big issue with this artisan since so many people would love to try it, good thing its now available at WCS.

    SHAVE OF THE DAY

    Prep: Hot water splash
    Razor: Gillette Superspeed Flair Tip
    Blade: Topaz Platinum
    Brush: Unknown Badger
    Soap: PAA The Beach
Post: Van Yulay- Arabian Nights balm (sample)

Had a very rough shave this morning. Not surprised since this no name badger brush is very floppy and cannot get a decent lather to save my life with this brush. Eventually the PAA whipped up to something resembling lather, but there was still a lot of tugging and pulling. Wasnt till the 3rd pass when things started to become acceptable. Finished off with Arabian Nights which burns my skin somewhat. Accidently left this sample outside in the heat and it turned to a grainy consistancy. otherwise would have just PIF'ed it but since its like this i figured to use it up rather than give someone the wrong impression of this product. since the shave gear at this house is limited the results were expected. Looking forward to tomorrow's shave since a few things arrived in the mail. Hope everyone had a better experience!

Thank you Doug. I honestly don’t know. They don’t publish who makes the knot. It’s a very nice performer and is my permanent travel brush. I like it a lot.

Great review Matt. Sounds like a great soap and that lather is without question perfect looking.

    Decadent December!!

    December 11, 2018

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette 195 (Fatboy) (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Stirling Glastonbury [IMG]
    Brush - Jayaruh #230
    Post - Alum

Whoa! Posting this before midnight. Will wonders never cease. Actually it was a rough night out there and I called it to an end a bit early. It was either that or start running people off the road. I saved that for another night.

After three shaves on the Dura Sharp blade I decided to get back to some real decadence. Sharp Star blades baby! And, loaded in the Fatboy it's hard to say it isn't almost illegally decadent. Add the Stirling Glastonbury with mutton tallow and a JR brush to whip it into shape - I felt better instantly just looking at that setup. Two passes and the baby is in the house and the alum is quiet. And that's shaving two days growth. The cut from the pain stick is finally healed to the point it isn't an issue. Another few days and I may be able to try another pain stick.

Great shave after a rather trying day all around. I feel refreshed! Tomorrow is my Friday. For most of you it's Wednesday. I'll try not to laugh too hard about that as I go into my "weekend". Have a great one!

My wife worked for a US company who had an office in Heidelberg but I was stationed in Erlangen and she worked as a counselor for the US schools in Nuremberg area. We were planning on staying in Heidelberg when I was getting out the service but the wall came down and Germany would not give a visa so we headed back to the US. The Castle was a beauty and having the castle the whole night for a work dinner party sounds awesome.
