It looks like I am going to get a chance to head over the pond to Sweden for a few days in early January. It is a work trip, and I will be just outside of Stockholm. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to try to check out while I am there? How about any shaving supplies ot look for?
Terrific opportunity, Jim! I went to Sweden about 15 years ago. My mother's side of the family came to America from Sweden and we had some relatives still there when we went. Stockholm was a neat town. Check out the Vasa Museum - https://www.vasamuseet.se/en - it's a huge ship from the 1600s that they pulled from the harbor. I can't recall any other specific museums or sights. We walked and wandered a lot. I ate reindeer for the first and only time in Stockholm. We also traveled to the island of Gotland where our family lived in the 1800s before coming to America.
Thank you for the suggestion Perry. I may get there a day or two early, so I would definitely have a little time, for some site seeing. Did you drive around when you were there?
We didn't drive in Stockholm, but we rented a car in Gotland and drove a lot. I remember mainly taking the subway in Stockholm.
my dad went to sweden in the 80s.he was a volvo technician and had won their v.i.s.t.a. competition a couple of times during this period.he toured the volvo plant and many other places in the country..
In my junior year of public high school, I became friendly with a Swedish foreign exchange student. This was when Bjorn Borg's tennis career was beginning to rise. Every time the student and I played ping pong at my house, he'd cream me. He was from Linkoping. Hope he's doing well today.
Jim, the trip to Sweden sounds exciting. We've taken trips to the UK and Italy, and we use resources developed by Rick Steves. He has a terrific website, traveler's forum, and YouTube channels. You'll find country-specific information and general travel tips for Europe. He even shares tips on what to pack for a trip to Europe. If you happen to pick up one of Rick Steves guidebooks, it will tell you exactly what to expect. You can also download a Rick Steves phone app that's pretty handy. I hope you have a great time, and I look forward to seeing photos and hearing about it when you return. https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/sweden https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCchgIh8Tc4sTmBfnMQ5pDdg https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Nkv_XC9dbHzl3WZ1ajH2g Here's a RS video on Stockholm
