I have tried NBs twice now with varying results. They did succeed in causing me to be more deliberate in my purchases, which was my main intention. However, I don't think I will sign up for one again. An NB year is an arbitrary and artificial limitation. I broke my NB'18, for example, to buy a brush that may well not have been available anymore by 2019, and also stocked up at the TSD Shop while it was still taking orders. I now have a list of a "few" items I want that I have considered carefully. If I have spare cash, I will get them, and if I don't, I won't. Simple as that now.

Several razors have left my den this year (and four more are heading out in the current TSD Holiday Raffle), as did some brushes, soaps and splashes. So if I add a bit, I will still be close to net zero. Good enough.

For me the R41 was a wild razor with big teeth and claws, nasty growl.

Monday evening December 17 - Menthol Monday

    Gillette Blue Tip (B2 - 1956) / vintage Wilkinson Sword (2)
    Simpsons CH2 Chubby Synthetic Bristles
    Fendrihan Lavender Sandalwood soap sample
    Alum and Osage Rub
    IMG_20181217_185100_burst_01.jpg

I repeated with the Blue Tip I tried a few days ago. After further soaking, ultrasonic cleaning, and dosing with penetrating oil, the TTO mechanism now operates smoothly although not entirely freely. Good enough though. I think the only way to get the razor to work as easily as it did originally would be to disassemble it for complete interior cleaning - and I am not prepared to do that.

Good shave today apart from the scent. The mild lavender sandalwood aroma of the soap was overwhelmed by the smell of penetrating oil coming from the razor...

Two passes had me very close to BBS tonight. Only a few sparks here and there from the alum. And then the Osage Rub froze my face for the finish.

Hope everyone is on track to have a great week!
