Well tried out the Dominica Bay Rum soap and have to say it is one thirsty soap.
Started out with a damp brush, two shakes instead of my normal 3 then to the puck for a count of 10 then to the Blackship Grooming bowl. Found out right away this bowl too small and transferred over to my symmetrical pottery bowl which is 6 or 6.5 inches wide and as you can see the lather filled up this bowl. Lather came out airy, not the yogurt thickness that I like but surprisingly the shave was pretty slick with the '34 Aristocrat. I slowly added more water and whipped up lather again, and lather thickened up but still on the airy side as seen in the 2nd pic. So lather was not a problem but need to work on the water ratio. Again slick during the shave and post shave and not sure if from the soap or combination of my homemade preshave oil and the soap. Best way to summarize this, reminds me of how I started out five years ago with Mitchell's Wool fat and Stirling Soaps. Heck of a time at first as both were too airy and found out they are water hogs which I had to gradually add water, swirl a bit, add more water, repeat. Took me 3-4 tries with two mentioned above before I nailed down the ratio and I think this Dominica Bay Rum will take the same approach.

Hopes this help you out Joseph

Lathered up for the first pass. Little to airy for my liking but was still slick for first pass

Added a little more water x2, lather thicken up and filled the 6" inch bowl once more. Still slick as a whistle

This was only the second shave with this lovely black handled Canadian E3 - even though I’ve had it since September 2015. Glad it got back into action - very nice, smooth, easy, close shave. :happy036:

I still mulling that over but I'm leaning toward using my Brit #70 because I tend to gravitate toward shiny objects. One thing is for certain. I will use my Xmas tree aroma soap.

Good looking set up Andrew. Real quick, what are your initial impressions so far with the V2 .70 Mamba as compared to the V1 .53 original? As smooth as the first one? Better efficiency on first and subsequent passes?

I've been fighting back Temptation wave after wave for the past week. I'm holding my ground but, I can feel the Ramparts starting to break. It's just a matter of time. I can feel it. The tide can swing in an instant though, a yay or nay will suffice from you. :transport024:

Noble Otter is one of the "Texas Big 3" I'm looking into for 2019. Well, I already have Grandpa's Barbershop(Central Texas Soaps). How do you like the Texaus?

It will be warm-ish here Friday and Saturday. I've already switched my aftershaves for those days, in that respect. You know me, with weather&shaving! Off to the gym in a bit.

Thanks for the report, Guy. That lather does look really airy...just like mine did when I first tried the soap. When I get my new puck, I am going to treat it like a shave stick and rub the puck directly on my face. I'll report back. It does smell awesome, doesn't it?
