It certainly was! No irritation and could have done with 2 passes, but I had time, so I did 3.
It is in user grade. I wish I could find another one that was from that same era so I could finally retire grandpa's, but still get the same quality of a shave.

So I went to Merz Apothecary in Chicago a couple of days ago. They had a good selection of wet shaving gear. Great opportunity to smell some items and I almost treat it as smelling items to rule them out. I ruled out all the new Clubman splashes (Whiskey Woods, etc) as well as some Stirling scents (Gatlinburg, Stirling Spice). I really enjoy that opportunity.

I did purchase a few items. Oleo New City soap and splash, which is a raspberry and leather scent as well as a Speick shave stick. Fairly inexpensive all around. THey had Windy City Barbershop, El Caballero, and a couple of other Oleo scents, but I opted for New City. Caballero smelled pretty good.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun to go there again. I can't imagine going somewhere like Pasteur's in New York City. I'd be there all day!

My wife and I love good food. In fact our travel destinations and best experiences have been centered around food for the most part. We had some incredible eats on our trip.

Dinner at Girl and the Goat
Dinner at Topolobampo (7-course menu with wine pairings...unbelievable)
    Dinner at Gibson's Steakhouse (amazing)
Dinner at Little Goat Diner (was good but probably wouldn't return)
Lunch at Barrio (Katsuji's restaurant - he has been on Top Chef twice)
Lunch at Gino's East Pizza (not refined, but damn good)
Lunch at Aloha Poke in Revival Food Hall
Lunch at Purple Pig (Mediterranean-influenced small plates....incredible)
Samples and bought some provisions at Eataly

Needless to say my pants were a hair tighter on the way home yesterday. But it's worth it. The holidays are tough to control as far as eating so I'll have to dial it back after the New Year.

Fun getaway. Now I have to steel myself for a family Christmas gathering at our house. This is my father-in-law's side of the family. They're interesting......

    Great shaves, everyone!

Are you lathering before and after stropping, or just after? Lathering before and refreshing it after stropping helps soften the hairs more.

Sounds like a great trip, Perry! Leather and raspberry sounds interesting. Another soap added to the list.

Three pass & clean up for a DFS that if history holds true will be a long lasting reduction. Splash of AS and that was that. Now back to riding herd on my crew here.

Dominica Bay Rum Soap~~Mondial 26mm~~1964 Gillette Tech~~Personna 74~~Dominica Bay Rum
    It's official.
Dominica Bay Rum Shave Soap is THE worst soap I have ever used. There, I said it.

To make matters worse, this is the SECOND puck I have purchased. How stupid is that???
Received it yesterday from West Coast Shaving. $5.50 shipped. Dirt cheap, right?

This soap refuses to make nothing but an airy mess.
However...never let it be said that Primo gives up. :rolleyes005:
I have an old tub of Simpsons Unscented Shave Cream.
Took a finger full and mixed it with the loaded Mondial.

Now, all was not hunky-dory just yet. These two soaps didn't want to readily combine,
and what I had on my face was a goopy mess (No, I didn't just eat ribs)
With some due diligence and not a little bit of H2O, I was able to finally create a pretty nice lather.
In doing so, I did sacrifice about 90% of the Dominica Bay Rum scent.
Gillette Tech loaded with a well-used, but still decent Personna 74, took off the 24hr stubble
in three + some ATG buffing.
Finished with a splash of Dominica Bay Rum and got the "you smell really good" from SWMBO.
I do NOT recommend this soap, even at this cheap price.

Wonderful report, Joseph! I'll stay away from that soap. Have you tried modern Williams? I know you have a deep reserve of vintage Williams, but curious if the Dominica is worse than modern Williams. Yes, I know that Fuzzy will have me on a watch list after saying that.....
