Thanks Brit! I dont think Stirling is currently offering Aqua DGO. Picked up this tin 2nd hand a while back, its their old label so assume its old formula as well. They do have Baker Street which is somewhat similar.
SHVAE OF THE DAY Prep: Pre Shave Soap Mix Razor: Wilkinson Sticky Blade: GSB Brush: RR BC Plissoft Soap: WK Project Leather Post: Vintage Denim, Davidoff Zino EDT Superb shave this afternoon. WK makes one of the best soap bases on the market IMO. Both their original tallow, and the DM perform magically. This scent seems to be a bit softer in consistancy than Man From Mayfair, so load with a lighter hand if loading from the tub. Scent of Project Leather is not what i would expect from the name. The leather is light and sweet, reminds me a little bit of RR Al Sapone as both are a little similar sweet leather gloves rather than saddle or cowboy boots. Managed to get a super smooth BBS with no nicks or redness. Even chased the baby a little bit without consequence. Was planning on using the Denim A/S but was letting the WK post shave ride out for a while, scent lasted a solid half hour or so. Shot 2 sprays of Zino and is still smells strong as heck. One of the strongest colognes i have ever tried, just beautiful. Hope everyone had a swell shave!
Decadent December!! December 27, 2018 Razor - 1947 Gillette Aristocrat Blade - (1) Soap - Stirling Black Ice Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum Prior to my regular shave it was head shave time. I skipped the head shave last week so I had two weeks growth going. Time to grab a pain stick and take care of it. I used the CJB Greager with Feather Pro blade. Usual VDH Deluxe and VDH Boar for soap and brush. Very nice result and only one minor nick. I gave it a little too much angle coming over the back of my head and dug in just a tad. Other than that a fantastic shave. As for the main event, Black Ice and the JR46 for the outstanding lather. The Aristocrat and Voskhod for the hardware and three passes got me just as smooth on my face as the CJB did on my head. Great shave tonight and I love shaving with the Black Ice scent. Makes me want to run out and buy licorice! Hope you have a fantastic Friday!
December 27 Muhle R41/Big Bomber SS Rapira Swedish Supersteel (2) 30DC LE SC Love Alum, Thayers WH, USB, Floid Vigoroso I purchased the R41 head a few years ago, and the handle came with my Batch 2 Mongoose SE razor. My first shave with this set up took place on November 25, and I've shaved most days since then. I didn't know what to expect from such a heavy handle paired with the R41, but it has been a pleasure to use. The blade, head, and handle combined weigh 5.75 ounces. It is, by far, my heaviest razor. Because of the extra weight, I really focused on using the correct blade angle, very little pressure, and good skin stretching. The size and texture of the handle actually made the razor a pleasure to use. I used three different brushes (30 DC LE with a synthetic knot, Chubby 2 in Super, and JR # 160 with a boar knot), and each one is distinctly different. I like each one for what it is. The boar builds the best lather, the quickest. The Chubby provides a great lather and face massage if you take the time to really load it, and the LE is my pick up and shave brush. It builds a nice lather without having to soak it first, it dries quickly, and the handle shape is a favorite. I used several blades: Ladas, Sputnik, Feather, Lord Super Stainless, and Rapira Swedish Supersteel. All give fine shaves, but some are definitely smoother. Among these, I rate the Ladas and Rapira to be the smoothest overall. I hung with the Soap Commander for this focus, and I'm definitely making some headway with it. I've got at least another month's worth left in the tub. For a vegan soap, it provides a nice, cushiony, and fairly slick lather. The value for this soap is outstanding. I still rate it a notch below my favorite tallow soaps in overall performance. The rose scent is pleasant, and I find it to pair well with many of my aftershaves. Having said that, I'll probably not repurchase this brand of soap or this particular scent in any soap.

I don't know why, but this is one of the sets that shows what this hobby is all about. All the best stuff to play with. Telecommuting from home tomorrow. Will get up early and have my coffee with my shave. Will be a stellar shave! ***EDIT - My neck is fully recovered and I used pre-shave oil just to be on the safe side this time. The shave went perfectly. 2 passes + careful cleanup. BBS. No nicks, no weepers, no irritation. Looks and feels great.
Wow. That's surprising that they shave different because they are technically identical in measurements and design. I wouldn't expect the function to be any different. The only potential difference would seemingly be in the balance and weight of the razor and how that could provoke the user to make an incorrect move or adjustment during a shave. IMO, the design is bulletproof. As good a shave as I could expect every time I've used it. Even when the blade wasn't fresh, it still gave a great shave for me. I suppose the difference is likely splitting hairs.
