Well the beauty of the New One Year Plan (besides using past success as a future guarantee) is that it is constantly modified day by day by the proletariat. For a cartel we're awfully democratic that way.

They are great razors. My first ever razor was a Schick Type M.

My only problem is I am having trouble getting the Voskhods to fit....I may have to ask the Cartel for help.

 

Hello Gents. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holidays! I don't think I'm going to be able to catch up on the posts as I'm 160 pages behind.

I'll post a shave report tomorrow with pictures but I am wondering about Synthetic brushes. I recently received a Synbad Synthetic and I'm really liking it but I'm running into an issue with the lather running down the handle. I'm thinking it's because the brush must have too much water. My question to you masters of the blade is...What is the best way to use a Synthetic brush?

The technique seems to be different than using a boar brush. Appreciate any advice you guys can offer!

 

Synthetics don't absorb water, but rather hold water between the bristles. That's the basic description anyway. I don't soak a synthetic prior to shaving. Fill the mug I usually soak the natural bristle brushes in and simply dip the synthetic knot in for about 10 seconds. Remove and shake two or three times. The brush will remain damp but not full of water. Then load like any other brush. If there's too much water left in the brush you will end up with the runny lather all over the place. It's just a matter of learning how damp to leave it so that it loads and then lathers like a champ. Once in awhile I will get it a little too dry and end up not getting a slick enough lather, or have problems getting it loaded. In that case I just dip the tip in the water and go back to work with it. Usually fixes it every time. I'm sure some others have their own take on this as well but that's how I do it.

Neal pretty much nailed it. For a synthetic, you want the brush damp rather than wet and trickle a bit more water in if it's needed.

hello fello shavers, lounging around and thought time for a shave.. went out today with a buddy to some 2nd hand shops. found a cased canadian old type for $10 bucks. looked it up on mr .r sight and the case is for a u.s.prewar..yeeha, the old type was poor at best so parts.. anyhow thought i d use the u.s prewar loaded with a gsb, omega 10005 boar, wholly kaw fern concerto soap. nice slick lather ,lovely 3 pass dfs shave, no drama..touch of thayers and fern concerto a/s to finish..now the prewar has a new house, and a lovely shave to boot..have a great night gary..

 

Saturday shave

I decided to try and figure out this tub of Oleo, today I used less water, treated it like a mug soap and face lathered and had much better success. The 3/4 grind Hart Steel is a silent wicker assassin, I finished with an epic shave.

What happened to the lover for Clubman?????? In order to reverse the concerning trend it was my scent of choice. I used it as and AS and the once I was finished I liberally doused my self in Clubman.

After a week of lathering this soap loads easily. The photos shows I still had enough for another shave. Got my three passes and enough clean up to score a BBS. With a couple more days to finish the month I'm going to drop Focus and spin the wheel - random but decadent.

sounds about right to me, love synthetics , great lathers every time,no variables due to hairs absorbing lather..

 

Sounds like a good shave and the razor looks very smug and comfy lounging in front of its new home.

 

Nice score, Danny! The Schicks are great razors (once you figure out how to jam that DE Voskhod blade into that SE injector razor....)
