Thanks, guys, for the kind words!

No worries, Perry. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself during the holidays, and I'm sure you'll find your routine again when school starts. I plan to ease up and enjoy more foods as I get closer to my target weight. My app tells me that I can eat about 500 to 700 calories more each day when I hit my target. The key for me is to continue logging my food, weighing myself weekly, and trying to stay on budget week to week. I won't stress too much if I go overboard one day. That's real life. :)

Perry, I think you'd like the SRX. With all your SE experience, I think you'd find it to be fairly intuitive.

Thank you Jim. The watch was a gift to myself. It’s a remake of a 1953 pilot watch. The 24 hour hand takes some getting used to.

That would take some getting used to. The zulu strap looks great on it.

I see that the SRX takes DE blades, but does it use AC blades or do you have to get the barber blade? Hope that makes sense.

It could well have been due to my poor brain cell structure, Brian. :) I'll check with @NCoxSTL to see if we should start reporting our times in GMT since we're such a global bunch. Then, we could refer to our 1700Z shadows, and everyone would be on the same page.

Nice birthday haul from Cabella's. That's a very cool store. I'm glad you and your sweet Bride had a fun day yesterday.

Thank you, Clint. I appreciate the kind words. It has really made a difference in how I feel. My Bride and I are looking at some dietary changes that supposedly reduce inflammation. She's at a perfect weight, but she has recurrent back and knee pain. We're hoping this will help her, and I figure it will be good for me too.

Perry, the SRX uses DE blades snapped in half or barber blades. I just snap my DE blades in half before removing them from the wrapper, and I've never had a problem. I'm just careful to keep my fingers off the blade edges. Here's a helpful video showing how the blades are loaded and the razor in use. As you can see, one pass knocks down a heavy beard. I'm planning to shave twice on each half blade if I can.

Something that has stalled me in trying straight razors or shavettes is my neck. I need to shave my neck S-N. The grain grows that way for the most part. Shaving N-S down my neck is not good for me. It's easiest to shave that way with any razor but seems particularly convenient with a shavette or straight. So that's been a issue with me in hoping for successful shaves with that type of razor.

That’s a nice looking razor. I may have to get one to try. Right now I still pull out the Luxor pro.

After my first WTG pass, S-N, I can't see any stubble but I can feel it. That pass is quite easy with the SRX. On my second ATG pass, N-S, I just pull up on the skin, take really short strokes, and in the hollows I'll even shave with just the leading third or so of the blade edge. It's not as bad as it sounds. Just take it slow. Even a partial ATG pass might work for you.

I start off by lathering my whole face. As I finish one section, I'll re-lather the remaining sections. That way I don't feel rushed or have to worry about dry lather. It also helps keep my beard soft and ready to be shaved.

The hardest parts for me is shaving around my chin and mouth area. I just go really slow and do enough passes to get things as smooth as I want. The other thing is cutting my sideburns. That should be easy with a straight, but I need more practice to get them straight and even. I like the way Geo does it.

Thanks Jason. If the Luxor pro works for you, I'd stick with it. However, if you're looking for something different, the SRX is a nice choice.

The Luxor is my only shavette in my collection so far. So one more addition couldn’t be a bad thing or would it???!

Well an end to what was a gloriously quiet day. I was told "we are going out to eat with the gang, get ready in a hurry".

    +1....

So I did the same thing as yesterday, but I only did a 2 pass face and a 1 pass head shave with a little touch up.
Don't think I'm gonna be late for dinner do ya!
I'm ready, and waiting? Guess I had more time than they thought ;).
    Enjoy!
