Nirav, think of a straight razor with a replaceable blade. For example, my Parker SRX takes a half DE blade. For me, I can have the fun of using an open blade razor without having to maintain the cutting edge.

You'll see several different shavettes in use here. I've heard the Magic shavette is a good one, and I've seen them at Sally's Beauty Supply for about $10. The Parker will set you back around $30, and I like it a lot.

    Here's a helpful video:

Nice set-up, Gary. The Stirling Gentleman always piques my interest.

Awesome summary. Glad to be a part of this little corner of the inter webs! You guys are like wired branch of the family that no one wants to claim, but everyone wants to hang out with.

Wow... Good job on kicking '19 into gear 30 DC! My Shavette Fu style post was going to be huge, so I split it between running conversations and Part 2 - NEW 30 DC Members!
We all appreciate your wind Neal. It keeps the ship moving forward. Since the 30 Day thread is moving at the speed of recycled electrons post your preliminary here. You'll get some instant feedback before publishing on the blog?

Captured video of Fuzzy @wchnu during a "training session" for your viewing pleasure. That other guy must have molested & bloomed The Williams.

Charlie, tell the new guys the truth. You like riding in the back!

You're just paying forward to the shave gods John. By the time shavettes happen you ought to be karma'd up.

That's a lot of pondering, good thing the blade was dull. Open blade tip; don't shave nekkid in case you drop the razor.

Me, too. Glad you've settled in Joseph. I recall someone fussing in The SOTD thread for all the side comments, thank yous, and you're welcomes. Like Neal's @NCoxSTL posts, we need the wind blowing in to keep the air fresh!
I've seen this happen before Terry. Leave the Stirling bath soap page open on your or her computer. When she places an order slip in your next goodies.

I like Clint's @clint64 open handled SE! That Dyson bladeless fan design is unique. Clint - does it grip well?

Nice write-up, Neal. This thread is my favorite and consistently the most fun, if not most verbose, on the inter web. :p

My 30 Day Rule for January 2019 (1950's themed).

    No brush.
Barbasol "Soothing Aloe" Canned Shave Cream.
"Rexall" branded vintage blue carbon blades.
Flare Tip Super Speed (Z1 First Year, First Quarter).
    Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue.

Barbasol "Soothing Aloe" formulation was most likely not available in 1954 but since I received a can for Christmas that's what I'll use for this focus. I've had a couple of shaves with it already and find it to be an excellent cream.
I could be wrong, but my search results show that Wilkinson introduced the stainless blade in 1962 and Gillette released theirs in '63 so I've decided to go carbon blue for my 50's themed focus.
The blue carbon "Rexall" branded blades I acquired from a friend whose father had passed away. I have an unopened original box of fifty blades as well as a few loose ones from a previous box. I've tried them before and they're reasonably sharp but a little tuggy. I may go "one and done" on those but will try to stretch them with careful drying and storing between shaves.
Lastly, I've included good old AV blue since it was a mainstay of that era as well.
I'm an every other day shaver so I'll start this tomorrow.:)

Ummm...well...yeah, but could we take the Low Rider this year? Some of us are gettin' long in the tooth, and it's easier to jump in the back... These trucks are all the rage at The Pig. It'll draw a bigger crowd than a 50% off Metamucil sale.

i think your question was answered

wanted to add while it looks like a straight razor, its like comparing apples to oranges

i thought it would be a good idea to "learn" with it, dovo with long blade, after my first try with real straight razor i never went back. (except for touch ups)

after getting a bit more familiar with straight razor, (still under 100 shaves) I am able to wield a shavette with confidence and authority

if you do decide to get one, consider the dovo because you can you long blades
