    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Just like the meet up freebie box. Showed up with a box of soaps etc to give away. Everybody went through it. It had more stuff in it after breakfast?! Then at dinner there was more stuff added by Carl, and even more stuff taken, and I still brought back more. Shave physics.

Wow...this thread already took off like a rocket. I still haven't finished reading through December yet. Good grief.

Anyway - Andrew @Linuxguile - I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

I'm in again...as much as possible. Somehow this morning I gave myself a slight cut on the chin during the shave. So, I did what any reasonable person in the 30DC would do. Ordered a Parker SRX. It should arrive Friday...that being the case, it'll go for a spin Saturday morning. I was contemplating ordering one anyway, but I'm going to hold Charlie @wristwatchb responsible with his enabling in the December thread. Yep. Every blood drop is on his hands. The last time I tried a shavette (a cheapo loaner from a friend) it didn't go very well. Fingers crossed for less blood...

I met the mandolin player from the Darlin's back in 2001 or 2002. He was part of a bluegrass band working on a boat on Table Rock Lake. Quite a talented guy with some fun stories about working on the Andy Griffith Show.

You can get Crystal deodorant from most chain pharmacies, it's alum in a handy push up container.

I've been able to find alum blocks at my local Indian grocer quite cheap. It works a charm.

I hope he did too. We parted ways after that semester. I was actually there for school and it was too stressful a situation. He was headed down a rough path.

Congrats Bruce! I think you'll enjoy using the Parker SRX. It's not much to look at, but it has a nice feel and weight to it. Just take it slowly - cheeks first, followed by the neck, jawline, and then around your chin and mouth. I perform multiple, very careful passes on my chin to get it smooth. Skin stretching is absolutely required. Any fold or raised skin in front of the blade edge will likely get nicked or cut. Blade angle and pressure matter, but you already know that. You'll find that you're a bit limited on blade angle under the nose...you'll have to put up with a small amount of scraping as you shave from under your nose down to your upper lip. I quickly found that it is more comfortable to shave across my upper lip at a slight angle. I found shaving the hollows of my lower neck (on either side of the Adams Apple) is best done with about the front third of the blade edge. WTG and ATG passes are the easiest for me. For some reason, I have more trouble going XTG, so I usually avoid doing it.

As you're learning, you can stop at any point and finish up with a DE. I'm just a rank learner compared to the experts here, but I can manage a decent, bloodless two pass shave in a reasonable amount time. When you finish your first full shave this way, you'll feel a great sense of accomplishment. Anytime you're tired, in a rush, or just not feeling it, put the shavette away and shave with your DE.

But face it, Bruce, your body has two or three extra pints of blood. It won't matter if a little bit leaks out. Just clean up your mess. You have a nice new bathroom!

Cool story, Neal. I like their music. At least Andy and Charlene look like they're having fun when they play.

Thanks Charlie! Good tips for the Alum.

Thanks Andrew! That's good to know. I think the deodorant might be an even better option as it'll be easier to use.

Good tip! I have a couple of indian grocery stores around the area. I'll check on my way back from work tomorrow. Just out of curiosity how much do they usually sell for in the Indian grocers?
