And the moldy leftovers of the ice cream. Thanks especially for that.

Say hello to Sergei. He's applied to work for the Cartel with Boris, Ivan, Yuri and the rest of the gang. He's working on a sweater for Natalia. Once he's done we'll consider his application.

Well crap, why didn’t anyone let me know that topic was to be discussed that day. Oh well I’ll have to make up that day next semester

Huh...good luck around here. So you have too many SR's? Better buy more brushes/soap/AS/etc to balance out! Just ask and someone will post woodworking plans or photos of shelves, carts, and storage cabinets!

    January - Shavettes and Jeeves!

    January 1

    Razor - 1960 (F4) Gillette Toggle (9)
    Blade - sharp-star.jpg (3)
Soap - Blood on Steel by Jeeves of Hudson Street
    Brush - 30 DC LE
    Post - Alum

Well, we're off! Good grief - I checked in a few times during the day and knew you guys were having a good day. Never expected to post my first shave of the month on day 17 but I'll take it! I couldn't let Decadent December end with only two shaves on the Toggle/Sharp Star so I went back to that for the third and final shave on the blade. I did, however, choose the Blood on Steel Limited Edition Meet-up soap by Jeeves to get on theme. And, I paired it with the 30 DC Limited Edition brush. Definitely a great way to start the new year with the LE combination. I'll splash on the Blood on Steel AS tomorrow before heading to my new store. Well, old store. Yep, they moved me yet again. Back to the store I had a year ago. Before being moved twice in a year to "help save problem stores". Guess what? My old store is now a "problem store". I think I need a raise, or at least a limo to get back and forth.

The lather from the Blood on Steel was Jeeves quality. Very nice indeed. Three passes to a BBS with just a minor bit of burn from the alum. Sharp Stars always do a fine job and the Toggle is always fun to use. Glad I took the opportunity to give it one more run.

Hope you have a great Wednesday and thanks for a fantastic start to the new year. And....to the newbies I see joined up today.....WELCOME!!! You're in very good hands. We promise we won't enable you to buy more razors than you want or need. Well, ok, than you want. We all "need" more.

Bison Tallow?? Well crap. I was all ready to announce my intention to focus on only three soap makers this year and work through some of my other stock to downsize. But another type of tallow to try?? Well crap. :angry032:

I know this is shavette month. My question: Is there anyone else besides me that will be using a shavette?

I may run onto another post answering this as I am working through the day's post late but.....Nacets are made in St. Petersburg, Russia by Gillette. Their Moscow counterpart is the Ladas.

I will be joining you at times, yes. I'm sure there are others who will be using them as well. Themes around here are a suggestion and not always followed to the letter. However, a lot of us like shavettes so you'll see a lot of them around.

Fuzzy @wchnu can sense the smallest disturbance in the Williams and will defend it to the death. And don't even think about molesting it. :scared001::scared003: As for the Cartel, we remain largely neutral on the Williams issue, largely due to the Czar's ability to lather it (to a useful state) a few times, but has suffered more failures than successes. However, Fuzzy scares the Cartel when he's in full Williams defense mode - so we just smile and say good luck.

You're never alone around here. And there are three magic words to make sure you have company if you're shaving with something....especially something a little "out there". Those three words? "I. Dare. You."

I'll add to that (without watching the video yet so this may be redundant) the Artist Club razors - we refer to as pain sticks - which are technically shavettes as well. As Charlie says - a straight razor with replaceable blade.

Still have four more pages to read, but wanted to post my Shave. Cattarangus Green Lizard. First shave of EDRIO. That and soap reduction will be my focus for the month. My targeted soap is a gift from the Meet Up, Wild West Shave Co. it was a 2 oz container, and had 1.9 oz left in it. I find putting samples in full sized containers makes them much easier to use. Pretty solid DFS shave today.

    Luxor & '46-'47 Aristocrat
    1-1/2 Personna Lab blade
    Proraso Sandalwood AS
SOTD 01012019.gif First day of the year, second shavette shave since I snuck one in yesterday. Had a hankering for the Red and a warm lather happened. With warm water quick fast & in a hurry, too. Proraso likes to be warmer than tap temp. The synthetic knot in this brush doesn't care. Only second use of the half blade, no tugging from a N to S mostly WTG. Hands felt good so I went S to N, too. Can't say I caught much stubble on that 2nd pass but I didn't spill any blood either. Pulled the slightly used whole blade from yesterday's DE and took two more passes enjoying the smell of the lather. Since I didn't knock the small scab off yesterdays opps and finished with the 'Crat it's a DFS. Aftershave didn't wow me like I recalled. Must have a stuffy nose.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

With all of the conversations, side jokes, insults, pictures, shave reports and everything else going on I'm glad you posted that! First and foremost, this thread is about developing solid technique. Technique will make any razor (that isn't defective) a fine shaving instrument. In trying to catch up with today's volume I have noticed multiple times where a newbie has asked something and received an answer or answers they need to help with technique. BRAVO to everyone here today!! I love seeing this thread live up to its design and potential. And Randy - I'll even call a truce on the great cookie war. For now. As long as you agree to throw in some Rocky Road as a peace offering.

    Landers, Frary, & Clark. Universal
    Fine American blend
    Jayaruh 175
    Shulton old spice

Well since Charlie enabled the shavette for January I figured I would participate with my first shave this month. I’m not completely sure if it is truly a shavette though since it has a blade that can be honed, but that’s for the powers that be to decide. And since it is one of the early models and the blade was is old and a little rough I ran it over the stones to bring the edge back to life. B1648E53-AE94-49F9-8DDF-F7FFAFE07E06.jpeg
Also since the package of soaps from Perry @PLAla arrived yesterday what better time to try one out then now. I chose the Fine american blend to start out with. Loaded up the jr175 and started face lathering, it lathered up nicely with a great slightly floral but mainly woodsy scent. It gave a good slick cushion for the shavette. After two passes and a little clean up, I had a pretty good shave With no irritation or sting from the aftershave. I do however think it would do better making the lather in a bowl instead of face lathering, I will have to try that next time. 9FCC781A-FB0B-4AFB-80A1-D6C738B274D5.jpeg

I remember you grabbing that soap at the Meet Up. Nice to see it out and working! Nice way to start the year. So, one question and I'll post this in your thread as well I'm sure - any thoughts on having to switch razors every day and possibly not getting back to each one for a year?
