If the blade can be removed I'd say it's a shavette. A unique shavette, but a shavette nevertheless. That's the official Cartel ruling. Of course, anything "official" from here is immediately suspect and can be discussed and disputed at will.

 

Awesome picture with the razor on that International Harvester badge on the tractor. Looks like the tractor is as shiny as the razor!

 

That looks like it could be a cousin to my Curley. They have replaceable blades, too. The scalloped bar flips for an early attempt at "safety razor" engineering.

 

I use Razorock Alum. A lot of the guys use Gentleman Jon or Bloc Osma. The real key is to make sure it's pure Potassium Alum and doesn't contain any extra chemicals.

 

We saw them live two years in a row here in St. Louis. Always loved them on PBS and had their DVD's. Seeing them in person was literally a dream come true.

 

Thank you for clarification without the need of filing forms 5, 27, &95. I really didn’t want to do that much paperwork for it to be returned for not including the exact change of unknown filing fees. This one is actually old enough to have celluloid scales.

 

Now that is an interesting razor Rick. Does it have any patent numbers on it? They can help narrow down an age pretty easily.

Yes and no Paul. The scales cover any year, but month and day are visible.
Those dates differ from the details in this period advertisement.

 

Well it was still technically a holiday when you made the request so the office of superfluous form filing was still closed. Good timing on your part.

Some of you may remember that the oft-feared - and rightly so - Feather was my nemesis early on. It demanded a fair share of blood in exchange for its tutelage. It has been remanded to my closet for some time now, not forgotten - who could forget THAT - but safely out of sight. And what better to bring it back into the light with but that almost universally maligned modern Williams soap. I've had a puck tucked away that I recently decided to bring out and try and figure out the truth behind. My early attempt with it ended up with it being a serviceable bath bar. Now, a couple of years of practice later, I figure I can get the real story with it. Williams and a Feather - what could go wrong? Turns out, not much. I managed a very serviceable lather with the Williams. What it lacks in cushion it made up for in slickness. It actually turned out to be a consistency I rather prefer for shavette shaves. Other than one small weeper on the chin (the Feather's token offering - it always demands its price) that closed up with an otherwise quiet pass of the alum, it was a very pleasant and effective shave. In fact, I'll be using Williams often this month to see how far I can take it.

Oops, I took them. I thought they would make a good souvenir since we don’t have Golden Coral in Korea. It took a bit of explaining and chemical test to get them through customs.

Any chance you have an Instant Pot? If not, cooking risotto in one makes the price of admission fully worth it. As much as I love making risotto (particularly mushroom risotto), the Instant Pot makes it so easy and hands-off. And - it turns out perfectly every time.

Letter A

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
Blade: Personna
Razor: Schick B1 repeater
Brush: JR #41 badger
Soap: Arko
Post: Witch hazel, RazoRock Blue Barbershop aftershave

The alphabetical focus begins. Straightforward shave this morning. No fuss and nice results. Arko isn't my favorite soap but it works quite well and gets the job done. This stick is a little older and the scent has faded some. I would venture to say that an Arko stick is perhaps the best deal in wet shaving. Tons of shaves for $1. @Bama Samurai got over 150 shaves out of one stick and could've gotten some more before the experiment ended. Check out Chris's Arko Challenge.

Nice shave in the end. Back to work today for a teacher workday and then students begin the second semester tomorrow. It's been terrific having time off for the holidays. Hope everyone has a great day!
