Alphabetical journey through soaps and creams
    (on pause for Fat Friday)

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick
    Razor: Schick G4 injector
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave

Easy shave with The Fat and the Schick 66 injector. Smooth and comfortable overall with a little weeper just below my chin. It happens. But no complaints overall. Great software and reliable hardware make for a nice shave.

    Enjoy your Friday!

I have the Omega 10049 boar brush. It is a good brush. The breaking in period was a little too long for me.

    Thank you, Jim!

It's a terrific brush. I received it in a PIF and it had already been broken in for the most part. It had been used in about 30 shaves before I got it.

    Razor: Blackland Dart
    Blade: Sharp Star (3)
    Brush: PAA Starcraft
    Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated
    Soap: PAA Frost Byte
    PAA Star Jelly unscented
    AS: PAA Frost Byte

    Good morning!

Terrific shave to start the day. Three pass, BBS result. The PAA Frost Byte was a bit much for a 4am shave. Face numbing cold.

    Have a great Friday! [IMG]

No extra scents this morning, as my Bride and I plan to spend today with our sweet kids at the hospital.

    Happy Friday!

Very nice, Jim! Signature photo as usual.

Wonderful setup and photo, Charlie! You've probably mentioned this, but are you pursuing the Soap Commander Love to the bitter end? Thank you for your volunteer work at the hospital. You know my back story with Wilson and his time in this hospital, and kind people like you and your bride made us feel welcome and comfortable and did so much to make our experience more normal. Bravo!

I think I need to take a leave of absence from work just to read these posts! Great stuff!

BTW, I keep seeing this ad pop up on Tapatalk. I've never used a SR but is this guy shaving or commiting suicide?

Beats me. But what he's not doing is selling me a razor.

    Asylum Saponificio Varesino Colonia

    ADP Colonia Essenza

Occam's Razor Enhanced Nano two dot head loaded with a Schick Proline P-30 was noticeable
smoother than the more aggressive Three Dot head. A three pass shave with little left for cleanup left my face super smooth and totally refreshed. Paladin Butterscotch Marble PK-47 and Asylum SV Colonia teamed for a massive an incredibly fragrant lather. Finished with Fine Italian Citrus and ADP Colonia Essenza. Hope everyone had a wonderful shave today. Happy Friday friends!

That Avon 4 Men(Maxwell '23) Tribute is pretty good stuff. I need to put more use into that while waiting to make my purchases this year. As I said before, I've been experimenting with matching my current aftershaves with my current soaps. I have much more of the latter at this time, but the Avon 4 Men could indeed work well as an "auxiliary" A.S. until I get more coming in. In another previous post I said I was hoping to get the Leather scent of that aftershave brand....still would like to.

Thanks guys! This was best shave so far in this focus. I performed three passes plus some touch ups. I'm smooth except for a bit of scruff around my mouth and chin at 10x. I still have work to do on my technique. The good thing is that I can use the shavette confidently without having to worry about mishaps. It does require more concentration than using a DE, but I consider that to be a fun part of the challenge. I believe the process of mastering a shavette will allow me to shave with any razor. I'd enjoy using straight razors, but I'm not crazy about maintaining the blade edge.

Yes, Perry, I plan to finish this container of soap. I'm somewhere around half way through it. I've come to learn how to get a great lather from Soap Commander, even using a synthetic brush (which has been my nemesis up to now). It's always good to keep learning new things.

Thanks also, Perry, for the encouragement. Serving the kids and their families is an incredible blessing for me and my Bride. We look forward to our time there, and it keeps us anchored in what's really important. We do have some sad times, unfortunately, but over the last couple of years, we have built an extended family whose kids have left the hospital and are now doing great. I praise the Lord that I can count your family among those. Keep posting those wonderful family photos with Wilson in them. :)

Was that session located anywhere near the Patriots' stadium? Wow, you really got around! As for lobsters, just gimme a lobster sandwhich and I'm fine.

Okay, I finally had a go with the straight this morning! It was supposed to be yesterday, but unfortunately I was...me. Put it off until it got to be too late.

Not bad at all for the first time. After the cheeks I still felt pretty comfortable, so I proceded on down over the jaw, and to the neck. It wasn't until I got to the chin that I started feeling the coarser whiskers. So I turned it over to mister micromatic from there.

Here's the weapon of choice. It was the most basic Ralf Aust 5/8 that srd carried, only $100 or so I think. Really nice for being so inexpensive. I bought the package deal with razor, strop, and dvd.
    IMG_20190104_095448.jpg

This was 2 years ago now. The strop of course was far too nice for a beginner to hack up. The procrastinator in me latched right on to that. I was planning on just finding a cheaper strop. Then straightrazordesigns started selling off and I picked up a spare leather (3" black latigo) for $14. So better still. (Or not. :sad024:)

Looking ahead to next week-it's Barbershop Central Station. I'll probably have more to say in here than in the SOTD thread, as I'm doing two threefers, covering Monday-Saturday. That's why I'm trying to make more entries in here than before-I suppose it gets tiring to say in SOTD words to the effect of "Didja see what I shaved with yesterday? Ditto today". (Course I change brushes daily though).
