The problem with so mant posts is, its hard to sort them all out. There is a lot of things being discussed here, so if I missed anyone

    Thank you!

This mornings shave had no blood letting. A 3 pass face and a 3 pass head shave with the Fatip. Since I started the open blade focus it's been leak free, just a small burn here and there, nothing that lasts more than a few minutes.
I do think my focus is turning into a rule. So far I have shaved with the exact same setup since sunday.

One addition this morning, I went 2 passes with the straight. The 2 passes with the straight was not as close as I'm used to with my other razors but it's much better than the first or second time I tried out the straight. I do think I'm getting a little better. The 3rd pass with the Fatip did the job.
I got up 15 minutes early to get time to do my focus. I will probably do that during the week now so I can shave in the morning.

When I started wet shaving, I never thought I would ever use a straight razor.

Just wanted a better shave ;).

    Till next shave!
    Enjoy!

Thank you, Clint. I haven't put a blade in it yet. I've just been messing with it trying to find the most comfortable grip. Maiden voyage in the morning.

    That's a nice straight razor.
I never thought I would use a straight, ever. Got to admit, you can't go wrong with a Micromatic either. I love my MMOC!
    Great shave!

Terry, just take your time when you straight shave. Don't tense up when you are shaving and enjoy the learning process. Remember, it is your personal journey into straight shaving and with each shave you will be amazed at the progress you make. Just keep at it and never accept defeat, but go forward.

Umm, yeah, as long as you are not on overconfident idiot who stops paying attention on the last stroke.

I appreciate it, although I still need to make ice cream in order to pay the bills, and I will continue to be rebellious and non-compliant because I just am. So, if you off the remaining elves and destroy the secret cookie recipe in lieu of ice cream, I may concede.

    I suspected as much.

I felt that same way a while back. Please refer to my previous comment so you may learn from the mistakes of others, and not heap shame upon yourself. (At least not for that particular reason, anyway.)

The Cartel denies any knowledge of any elves at any time, nor do we acknowledge the existence of a "secret" cookie recipe. Please refer any further inquiries on these matters to Ministry of Truth, otherwise known as "Minitrue" as they will be happy to provide proof that neither elves or secret recipes exist, or ever existed, or ever will exist again as needed.

I do seem to be a little better in just 5 days. I will be amazed if I do a good job soon. I do know with time it will get better.
    Thanks for the encouragement!!

Most of us started with no idea what we would eventually try. I promised my wife when I started that I'd never have a straight razor in the house. Now I have.....well......several. And, she's adapted very well once I survived the initial learning process. I'll probably never go to a majority of shaves with a straight of any kind, but it's nice to be able to use the razors effectively to keep life interesting. You're doing very well, by the way. The final result will get better and better as you get more time in with the razor. I've heard it said that it takes 100 straight razor shaves to perfect the technique. Kind of like 30 shaves with a safety razor. Straights have a harder learning curve and, of course, more risk associated so the extra shaves make sense. Keep it up!

Thanks Randy. I probably didn't state it correctly. I definitely "worry about" (really focus on) technique when using an open blade. I still have much to learn, but if I focused on mishaps and bad outcomes, I would probably stick with DEs. Hopefully this minimizes the chance of a serious accident. One thing I won't do (at least for now) is travel with an open blade razor. If I have a shaving accident in a hotel, for example, I would be without first aid supplies and would have no idea how to get to a local urgent care. In addition, a shaving accident could wreck an otherwise good travel day. When I see folks like @mrchick traveling with a straight razor, it tells me that he has solid skill and great confidence in his ability. I do OK, but I'm definitely not there yet.

On the subject of the kids, Charlie, there was a wonderful story out about a Greyhound therapy dog visiting sick kids in a hospital somewhere in Indiana. It was one of those rare "Good News" stories. Title-From The Racetrack To The Hospital. The dog's name is Finn.
