While at the hospital this afternoon and going down the rabbit hole of Youtube I ran across these characters that I had forgot about. For some reason I thought they would fit in good in the "Den".

 

Thanks Danny. I agree. I also picked up a small tripod for my camera phone that I sometimes use for SOTD photos. It's a really handy accessory. When I use the tripod, I set up my phone for a 2-second shutter delay...I figure that also helps eliminate camera shake.

 

i use the old samsung rugby lite phone for pics. not bad..

Charlie you are not going to beat the Manfrotto / Bogen brand. I have had a Bogen since 1983 and it still performs like new. Great idea to eliminate camera shake.

O.K. guys...see if y'all can help out with a little info on a razor I picked up off of the Bay. It is the metal handle razor in the left of this picture. It is a Simplex brand and I grabbed it because the handle was unusual. I also like the little Gem Feather Weight as well. I could not pass both of them up for $6.75 including shipping. Has anyone seen the metal handle Simplex before and any info would be appreciated.

I searched the web over and the only reference I can find to a metal handle Simplex was on TSD. Everything else is bakelite handles.

Pu Er Tea is my favorite, and what I spent the most time with. Sold in bricks or pressed wheels, it's a very old style. This is how it works.

January Shave # 1

Razor: Gillette New LC

New year so I thought I would start with a new blade, new razor, and a new Croap I've never used before. All I can say is ouch! Never used a shark blade before but it is quite sharp. Either that or it could be the razor I coupled it with. The Gillette New LC that I received courtesy of @John Ruschmeyer is a lot more aggressive than the Merkur 23C. I think my inexperience with both the blade and the razor led to a lot of cuts and blood. Turns out my technique still needs a lot of work especially with new blades and open combs! I'm going to give my face a rest for a few days to heal before I try shaving again. I'll go back to my Merkur 23C to see how much of it was the blade sharpness and how much was the open comb. I can always move the blade to the New LC after it smoothes out a bit more and loses that bite. I will say that the shave area where I didn't cut myself was quite smooth in only two passes so that is something to consider. I like the new LC and had used it once last year with a Personna red blade but didn't account enough for the different agressiveness levels between blades as well as the fact that I had gotten used to the merkur 23C over the last month or so! Always something new to learn. Also figuring out how to use the Synthetic to get the best lather from the proraso red which I am liking so far. Very mild but good Sandalwood smell.
