I get that result with Stirling. Concentrated and creamy soap. 10% soap and 90% water . A pea sized drop last 3 passes.

That's what I was thinking as I was writing my original post.....Stoylin is a good example of one that really produces that "well-used" appearance. But a couple I have always stay pretty rock solid(WSP and Razorock). Maybe another factor is that these last two are really packed tight in the puck. Does that make sense?

Thanks Patrick-y'know, with Stoylin, I suppose I use more than a pea-size amount, but I'll try to see what happens in cutting down.

Back to work today. Picked the Jack Frost for ‘Menthol Monday’ and got an exceptional lather with it. This big knot facelathers like a dream. 3 passes later and I am completely smooth. Today’s Jeeves product is this quality splash, which seemed to pair well enough with this earthy soap. A great start to the week.
    Have a great day all!

Beautiful photo, Jim! I’m glad to see it wasn’t the Fruitcake... was worried there yesterday for a sec.:scared003:
Nice combo today, Perry! That is a really unique Schick, I don’t think I’ve seen that colour combo very often.
Another great photo, Jim! The Ascension seems to have lots of fans.
Fantastic, Patrick! You are doing super with the Shavette...what is the story behind the Bearded Dragons?

So, since the straight razors are a big far "NOPE" for me, and since I kinda like it here, this month I will be on a search for my daily driver. I will mix and match soaps, but I will use the same soap for a week. I am using Williams this week, and the Schick!

Nice set up. I lathered up some Williams last night just to see if I could get a lather due to all of the horror stories I hear about Williams. I did not shave but was just playing around. I was surprised that I did get a pretty good lather for the first time. I mugged lathered and then transfered some over to the salsa bowl and whipped it because I had more room in the bowl. Not a bad first try and was impressed with the Williams.

I forget how I started, but I've been using original Listerine in a spray bottle as a post-shave for a while. Basically, it is a topical antiseptic and shaving was actually one of its original advertised uses.

    Awesome shave Jason.

Thanks Jason. Somebody had them and couldn't look after them so my gf went and picked them up and now we have 2 more pets. I'm not a reptile person but these 2 sure grabbed my heart. Webp.net-resizeimage (2.jpg

    Razor: QShave Adjustable (3)
    Blade: 7 o'Clock Permasharp Stainless (4)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Stirling Sheep
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

My second shave with the QShave clone of the Futur. Merkur named the original well; the geek in me thinks that it looks like what, say, the producers of Star Trek would have thought that a 23rd Century razor would have looked like. Two passes to a very nice shave with no issues. A couple of spots could be closer, but I don't know if that is the blade showing its age or some issues with finding the right angle (which seems to be the biggest challenge for me with this razor).

    9th focus shave

I enjoyed another very good two pass and touch up shave with the Parker SRX. The old mug even looked good at 10X after I was finished. I changed up my brush and cream for a bit of variety. I still plan to use up my SC Love, but C.O. Bigelow is next on the use up list anyway. It was a very refreshing change to have a Menthol Monday. My RV chubby whipped it up into a fantastic lather with a refreshing scent, and the new Rapira blade was super smooth. I finished with Clubman for the win! I truly think epic shaves are within reach if I want to invest the time and effort with this razor. Shavettes really provide great lessons in technique.

Jim, after watching a little closer during this shave, I keep the spine of the blade somewhere between 1 and 2 spine widths from my skin. I don't focus on the angle. I just set it based on overall comfort. If I can't feel the blade cutting whiskers, I know the angle is right. I also flatten out the razor and use it like a kamisori at different points during the shave. For me, this seems to help with grip and control.

I'm almost a third of the way in, and this has been a really fun focus. I hope you all have a great first full week of 2019.

Wonderful picture and great progress, Charlie.
Thank you for the input on angle. I was going about a spine width, I upped it closer to two and the blade felt like it was cutting through the whiskers easier.
