  1. @Bama Samurai
Fantastic photo, Jason! Man, is that brush ever sweet! :)

  2. Well done, sir!
Sooner or later, curiosity might get you. And the thrill of learning a new skill. We'll wait....:innocent
  3. Wonderful photo and setup, Charlie! Oddly enough, I used almost the identical setup today. ;)

  4. Thanks, Adam. Maybe we'll give the ones we have a shot, provided we didn't already toss them.
  5. Wonderful shave, Joseph!
  6. I can be a tightwad. But I will pay up, as long as I feel like I am getting my money's worth. If I think that I'm getting shafted, just because someone thinks that I'll pay (i.e. overpriced carts,) then I'll pass.

So I didn't start wet shaving to save money, really. I started wet shaving to not get shafted.

  7. There’s been a lot of love for the C.O. Bigelow / Proraso in here today for Menthol Monday. Broke mine out for today’s shave as well.

    Parker SRX
    Shark blade
    JR 216
    C.O. Bigelow
    WCS bowl
    Stirling Orange Chill witch hazel
    Clubman

Despite a few weepers that were done by the time the shave was finished up, the resulting finish is pretty darn good - especially considering that it’s only my third try with the Parker. I tilted the spine out a little bit, as per the advice from Chris @Bama Samurai . That seemed to aid in quicker reduction. I didn’t touch up with another razor this morning. Still not a “DE close” shave, however it’s getting closer to being one.

It’ll be a little while before a decision is made if the whole open blade thing is for me. For right now, I’m quite pleased that I can get a semi-decent shave with one at least.

I still had plenty of leftover lather in the bowl….hmmm….
Put my glasses on, grabbed the handheld mirror, and lathered up the back of my neck. Mostly not a problem. Mostly. Yep….upon inspection after the shave, there’s a nice little cut. I didn’t realize that it did cut me, but at least I know when it did, and (mostly) why. Improper angle. Doing the back of my neck with the Parker wasn’t so much as being cocky as it was being lazy. Will I do it again? You betcha. Without the cut next time. I think.

Finished up with a heavy hand of Clubman for that classic barbershop smell!

  9. Day......4?

One full wtg with the straight, then an atg on the neck and cheeks. I managed one small nicklet today. There's a concave spot under the jawline on my left side. It's an issue with the DE too. No amount of stretching will get it to flatten out. It will just take a while to figure that spot out. Otherwise I'm pretty happy.

  10. Great shave and photo, Bruce! Back of the neck, eh? Courage!

Great stuff, Brian! The Fat is always a solid choice.

    Nice shave!
  11. Wow, Bruce! Great job! I'm a ways off from doing a complete shave with a shavette. Something I need to figure out is how to grip the razor when cutting in my sideburns. My hand goes across my face in such a way I can't see what I'm doing.

  13. That's how I have felt when using a straight razor for the few times I have. Difficult to get it started.

  14. The only reason I haven't bought more Jeeves is because my current tubs seem to magically regenerate. It lasts forever, and it is great stuff.

  16. Today, I shaved with what is, to me, the king of shavettes:

    The Weck.
    And Arko.

Ridiculously easy shave, and the alum didn't even whisper. This could easily be a forever setup.

  17. The Wecks are grandfathers of the modern shavettes!
  18. Thank you, Jim! Today’s shave was “good enough”. Definitely not BBS. That’s OK though.

Do whatever ya gotta do as far as the grip. It’s enough to get the feel for using a shavette and not mangle yourself. For most of my shave there was nothing traditional about the grip. Especially going S to N on the neck. Get the scales out of the way to see what you’re doing if you need to. The shave police won’t bust you - I promise. Otherwise, I’d have been fined or arrested by now.

  19. Thank you, Gentlemen.
Bruce- this brush is fast becoming my favourite.
  20. That's for tea cups with tiny handles I guess. I drink mine from a garden variety coffee mug, and I hold it accordingly.
