Slayed it. Best true SR shave in a long while. This is why I shavette, so the skills on the SR never fade. A great end too a long and sometimes frustrating, yet productive day on the prairie. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a terrific Thursday!

  3. Thank you Charlie, it has started loosening up some today. I have been stretching in a really hot shower. It seems to be working.

I didn’t keep the beat up carton they came in, but it was gold and black. I believe this stock image I found is the same package:

Have you come across this vintage before?

  9. January - Shavettes and Jeeves!

    January 9

Razor - 1959 Gillette Super Speed
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
Brush - Stirling Pro Style Synthetic
    Post - Alum

Definitely feeling better but trying to ease back into regular food. So far, so good. I decided to stay with the "safe" option tonight for two reasons. First of all, why risk it when I'm not quite at 100%. Secondly, I plan to start some blade trials tomorrow and wanted to make sure I was BBS tonight without any cuts/scrapes/bloody messes to have to work around. So, this is the best way to accomplish that as well. Three full passes on the Super Speed and it still impresses as one of the best basic razors ever made. Gillette hit a winner with this one. The Jeeves and Stirling brush provided mountains of high quality lather and it was a great shave to set up the next few days.

Our new bed arrived today and is all set up and ready. My wife took a nap on it today and declared it the love of her life. I've been replaced by something I sell. I knew it would happen eventually. One thing is for certain - I will definitely enjoy sleeping tonight more than last night on the air mattress. One night was plenty of that. Have a great Thursday!

  12. Thanks! Although I only have 60 straight shaves behind me (31 shavette and 29 traditional straight), I don't want to ever be at B+. It is just my nature to try to do well every time I shave. However, I am not neurotic to the point that if I screw up my shave, then it isn't going to negatively affect my day. To put it diplomatically, life happens and I just go with whatever the situation is at hand and deal with it.

  13. Awesome shave Chris. That knot is a beast.

Just think of all the other men you sold these beds to. Probably all feel the same way. Can't wait for the blade trials . Always interesting Neal.
  14. FWIW, I think one should be proficient with both shavette and traditional straights because if you travel, then you may want to bring your least expensive setup like your shavette to get a nice straight shave. As for me, I don't travel too often, but sometimes I will use the shavette because I don't feel like stropping. Looking at it another way, you have your bases covered when you can use both. Moreover, if your really spent, there is always the DE safety razor.

  17. 20190110_002624.jpg Wednesday shave
    Luxor Pro
    Rapira Swedish steel
    Williams
    Proraso pre shave
    Aqua velva blue
    Fathers refurbed brush

This knot is a hard soap killer. 4 swirls then face lather. Loving the Proraso pre shave. Rapira blade on shave 3 and still sharp and very smooth.
When I first started with the Luxor last year , I never dreamed I'd be getting nice close shaves like I am now . 30 day focus really was the key I believe. Now I handle it with confidence knowing when I'm done I won't have to do a cleanup with another razor , I won't be bleeding, and i will be shaven clean and smooth. Thanks Chris @BamaSamurai for getting me started .
  18. Nice to see you Troy! For the newer members, Troy is another Charter Member of the 30DC. We now have a "Founding 6" on board. He is also the author of what is still the funniest post ever shared on this thread - and it was a shave report. It's the post that gained him his quite unique CT.

  20. What an awesome combo, Joseph. I’m a fan of Fine soaps, but it took me a bit to figure out how to get the most out of them. If you are a fan of Terre d’Hermes, I really recommend the L’Orange Noir. Great looking brush, stunning razor, super blade, great enabling...(yet to try the American Blend, even though I’ve heard a tonne about it)
You’ll get that Shavette dialed in soon, Bruce!
You pulled the Shavette for a reliable clean up? You, sir, have arrived.:happy088:
    Ditto.
Good looking gear, Paul. I had The Lounge Pif’ed to me...It turns out it irritated me a bit so I Pif’ed it as well. Very nice tobacco forward scent, though.
Love Drygulch Leatherworks stuff. I have a great thin wallet and money clip. Quality gear. We need Adam @Drygulch to finish his renos so he can get back in the shop...:Animatedfrozensmily:
Glad to hear you are feeling better! My ‘59 Flare Tip is on deck after a few days playing with the E2. You are right- a quality, oft overlooked shaver.
