    NCoxSTL AAACK!

I'm impressed. I can shave my head with a pain stick but have never tried with a traditional straight or shavette.

Good job on having a successful 3 pass first shavette shave terry! Hope you can get your straight shaving good again, make sure to ask questions if your running into any problems.

What a day. I shaved this morning and just had time to catch up on this thread. I did start with a very nice shave today.
My youngest daughter is in town for a couple of days and my wife and I just spent a very nice evening with her. I miss this kid.

    Does 9/8 indicate that it's a 1 1/8" blade?

So, let me understand this Fuzzy...ripping and tearing the puck to shreds is not a molestation...choking it to death with alcohol is not molestation...BUT, gently adding a refreshing dash of H2O is. :signs002:

Sorry to say, but yes....pressure and angle are the culprits. Muscle memory from using carts for many years can be tough to break for some of us. I still regress at times. When you think you aren't using pressure, use even less.

Blades don't make as much of a difference as some folks think. There are differences, but not monumental. I like the Shark blades. I find them to be smooth and sharp, but not particularly long lasting. You could always go with a "fan favorite" such as Astra S/Ps, which are known to be petty sharp, yet smooth. At less than $10 for 100, they're a bargain. It's hard to go wrong with most any of the Russian offerings.

Early on I tried pre-shave oil. I never found that it did anything beneficial. Actually, some claim that oil affects the quality of the lather. If I remember correctly, Andrew @Linuxguile and a couple of others tried Stirling pre-shave and did like it. Arko works just fine, and can produce a very slick lather...you just gotta put the water to it. Arko is very thirsty, especially if you're using a stick and use a generous amount. Proraso has Arko beat - hands down - in the postshave feel. Arko has the tendency to feel drying post-shave.

Just watch your angle and pressure - your shaves will certainly improve! :)

:signs011: Bruce is right, @Spock. We’ve all been there. You will solve it with less pressure and more time. Stick with it and eventually your blade choice will become almost inconsequential.

I might have overdone it with the Stephan BR this morning-will have to be more careful from here on out. Williamsport Barber Supply(apparently now Bowman Beauty) has decent prices for this.
