    Razor: British Gillette FB Tech
    Blade: 7 o'Clock Permasharp Stainless (5)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Stirling Sheep
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

I was feeling a bit lazy this morning so I just grabbed whatever was handy. I think I must have muffed the prep or the blade was past its prime as the shave was a bit rough in places. Despite that, however, I can't fault the results.

    Happy Friday, all!

  2. Fantastic writeup on the first of the blade trials, Neal! Guess we'll have to see if, after three shaves, this one is a winner. Off to a good start anyway...

  9. It might be Monday, but absolutely. One of the things I have always believed is that you cannot enjoy the good without the bad....

The occasional bad shave helps you appreciate the good ones.
  10. Thank you, Jim!
    Great shave Robert!
Sounds like a great shave, John! Any idea about how many shaves you got out of that Sheep sample ?

  11. First shave in the books lads! I think it went really well. A little irratation on neck but no major injuries. The alum took care of that, works awesome. It stung everywhere so I'm guessing my lather could have been better and i need to slow down a bit. I loved the witch hazel from Stirling and placed like an 80$ order with them this morning. I definitely need some practice. Some spots on my neck needed another pass but I didn't want it to get bloody. 2 adjustments are the weight and slipperiness of the razor and how dry after a pass, cant keep going over the same spot like with a cartridge. Shaving used to be a chore, but this was pure pleasure.

  12. Thanks, Bruce!

Glad to hear a good report, Rob! Watch your pressure with the razor. Also the angle of the blade against your face. The handle of the razor will be much more elevated away from your face then a cartridge. Ride the top cap of the razor. You can't bear down like you could with a cartridge, either. Just enough pressure to remove the lather. Very light. Lock your wrist and maintain the angle.

You are right about Stirling - great products! There are several Stirling devotees in here, me included.

Glad to have you along and welcome to the rabbit hole!
  13. Sounds like you're off to a good start! You'll be getting great irritation free shaves in no time. Ride the cap with very light pressure. Let the weight of the razor, or even less, do the work. Skin stretching helps too. Don't forget alum on the fingertips to help maintain grip.

Stirling is a wonderful product made by great people. Excellent choice.

  15. Hang in and it will get better. Great advise has already been given. If you think it is a pleasure now I can only imagine what you will be saying in a couple of weeks. ;)

  17. Sounds like a great first shave, Rob! Pressure and angle are whats causing the alum to sting. Your lather can likely use a bit more water too, when it has a glossy sheen to it you know its about right. Take a look at this thread when you have a moment, it really dives into shaving angles.

  18. Well, the time has arrived....my brother-in-law brought his cat down for a 3-month stay here to get out of the cold. Pet therapy for me, warmth for her Win-win. :).
  19. Paul are ya going to shave the cat? :happy068:
  20. Ok how long will my boar brush stink? That puppy is pretty ripe after its first bath.
