The smell will go away after about half a dozen lathers. If you want to help it along whip up a lather in the brush and let it sit there overnight. Then rinse it out and do it again. Also the more you use it the faster it will break in too.

And I thank you for your help. That 4711/Neroli shave set lives on! :)

    Happy Friday, fellas!

    Parker SRX
    Shark
    MWF
    Thater
    Clubman

This morning was the sixth use of the Parker. Each day, this razor feels less and less intimidating, and slightly more comfortable in the hand. I still have a long road ahead before it’ll feel natural. I’m just happy there seems to be a little progression with each shave.

The MWF did what it does best...turned into a delightful, slick lather with the help of the luxurious Thater knot. I did have two set downs that sucked and drew a little blood. I dodged a bullet - the bleeding stopped quickly and no noticeable marks. Whew.
Aside from that, the rest of the shave was thumbs up. The tugging issue I was having a few days back? Didn’t get that yesterday or today. Just as I suspected, it was because my angle of approach was off kilter.
Somehow, without even trying too hard, my grip on the razor is staying more conventional for more of the shave.
Finished results - quite nice. Maybe not true BBS or Epic level, still darn fine! As my treat to anyone I may cross paths with today, an ample dosage of Clubman was applied.

Supplemental ShaveFu post. Finally caught up reading. Hope to get in an evening shave after gathering the kids from school, helping with homework, making supper, etc.
Bring him in, Danny. Always room for more here in the 30 DC.
...some of my favorites. Ride the cap and Feathers are tame. I like the temper on Kai blades - not thicker stock, but stiffer.
Very similar feel to me Andrew. I don't recall the smoothing out that others see with Feathers. Just efficient reduction.

I'm curious how it performs with a 1/2 DE blade. I haven't tried a razor that takes AC type blades. Similar thickness to the Schicks? Congrats on teaching that shavette who's boss!

My four moved on years ago. Got used to being solo after the Ex & I parted ways. Now with two 7 year olds in school, and a 3 year old under foot it's all come back to me. Glad my daughter is here to help.

Fuzzy does have a "real" name. You aren't far off Paul.

Welcome Rob @Rob206! If any of these on-going conversation perplex or confuse - just ask. We keep this thread hopping and conversations fly by and get tangled.
Though we get off topic at times, it always comes back to Technique. You have great gear. Next step is forgetting cartridge shaving habits. That alum it telling you something. My guess (shared by others before me ;)) - too much pressure. Try to use just enough to wipe away the lather.
It's going to get even better. Soon you'll have a Zen Shave. That's when all these new ideas come together, you shave without thinking, and get perfect results.
Bam! Trifecta. Just needed a little skin stretching Technique. TTT FTW!
You're making me want to shop a new boar brush. Been a while since I defunked a fresh Omega!

I remember those days but man when the scents goes away you have a great brush that you will love. Just remember after you shave with the "ripe" boar brush go and eat some nice boar bacon or boar sausage. :happy088:

Thanks, Rick. 1/2 de blade will be up next.

The best part of a natural hair brush is the break in process. I was looking at Omegas last night. Just window shopping though. I really need to stop doing that. Seems to lead to another weak moment.

Actually, I'd like to get that one. I had the 16 oz, but it was taking a loooooooooong time to finish. I actually think Doc Pinaud made a mistake with the 16, unless he was hoping for people who love Clubman and Clubman ONLY.

At one time I was real close to buying an IBC shavette. Does that knob on the side get in your way?

Good thing about Omega boars - cheap price/top quality knots. The handles aren't the fanciest. Might even call them cheap, but the knots are good. Especially as donors for restoring other brush handles.
Easier to collect the different colors of a particular shape than all the sizes available. Seems like each vendor has different models for sale. I recommenced the Pro #10098. Classic Barber shop shape that fits the hand well. Fat knot and tall loft. I liked my first one so much, I thrashed the handle of a brand new one for my Rubberset 400 replica.

8/8 corresponds to 1 inch in many construction measurements. It is true for wood. A one inch thick board is 8/8 or 4/4, a half inch board would be 4/8 or 2/4 etc. A 2" thick board is known as 8/4 for example. 9/8 would be 1 1/8".
Watch it, Brian, or you will be responsible for the 30DCLE Version 2...one little off-handed comment I made like that was all it took for Jared to make the suggestion.:scared003:
TGIF! Awesome outfits, Andrew. The Sheraton isn't too shabby, either.
Welcome, Rob! I see you've gotten some great advice already. You have some quality gear- those big Omegas are a personal favourite, that razor is very well thought of and the Coniferous is a good product.
Oxyclean is an option for stink removal as well. I have put one soaking in the refrigerator for a day as well, with some rubbing on a towel a couple of times, and that seems to speed up the process as well.
Yup, you're turning into a pro with that Parker already, Bruce!
