The $8.00 Fatboy cleaned up pretty good. It will need a little more work but I was surprised at how well the head looks. There is some wear on the handle and some staining that I am having problems with. It is a good solid razor. All mechanics work well.

I noticed that the Gem case was actually a Micromatic case with a Feather Weight in it. I cleaned the case and the Feather Weight up. One of my Micromatics now has a new home.

A break from Jeeves January today. A few weeks ago, Joseph @Primotenore and I came to an agreement on this SV Colonia combo. It was shipped to the border (AS has alcohol) and I didn’t have a chance to go get it until this morning.
It didn’t work well for Joseph, but I have enjoyed SV products and wanted to compare this soap base to the Felce Aromatica, which is also a ‘Beta 4.3’ base.
Full disclosure#1- I have never owned the original Colonia, any Aqua Di Parma products, or any of the other Colonia dupes that are out there. That being said, I loved the scent of this. Both on the puck and in lathering. What SV does with scents often really works for me. Again, I have no frame of reference for Colonia, though.
I heavily loaded with my big Omega and worked up a nice face lather. It did not, however, lather the exact same as Felce Aromatica. I got it to the slick appearance that I like, but by that time the knot was dripping quite a bit. I hadn’t had that before with SV. Took the razor to the face, and the soap was fantastic. Incredibly slick, and the razor just glided. Perhaps a little thinner, but great.
Afterwards, I used an SV splash for the first time. Full disclosure #2- I have the Felce Aromatica Splash which just arrived a few days ago as well, but have yet to use it. To be honest, my face is just a little dry. Joseph mentioned this as well. Not sure if this is related to the splash or the soap. I’ll use the Felce AS tomorrow (for science!) to compare.
I checked the labels as well and these are not the exact same ingredient lists. The first several ingredients are the same, but then there are subtle differences after that- either in ingredient, or in order (%) beyond fragrance.
First Impressions? I agree with Joseph that this base is not an exact match for other Beta 4.3 soap I have, and that either the soap or splash (or both I suppose) has a slightly drying effect. That being said, I love this scent. Just awesome. As well, the soap performed superbly during the shave- very slick. I might have an answer tomorrow on whether it is the splash that is drying after trying my other one.

Wonderful photo Jason. Great report on the soap and splash. Bullgoose has a sale last weekend and I bought the Colonia soap and aftershave. The scent off the puck is great. I’m looking forward to giving it a try.

Nice shave.
But really, you don't have to rush things. For a long while I only did 2 passes, that got my tecnique down to where I could use lots of razors and blade combonations. For a long while I used Dorco blades and was able to get my shave on target for my tastes.
Sounds like you're doing great, so take your time, enjoy your shave.
Oh and I love my 23c!
