Chris I am much the same way. In the beginning I wanted to try every different soap and razor. Overtime I came to realize what I like best and have come to have preferences on things I enjoy using. While I still experiment occasionally, I have no desire to spend the time mastering things I don't enjoy using. This same amount of time can be better used enhancing my skills with things I like and at the same time enjoy using.
good morning, quick morning shave today gents, simple and well,simple..brit fb service razor, put a better cap on it..gsb blade, wilki brush..a little too much pacific cream in the bowl ,but a fantastic slick lather and a 2 pass combo dfs was the result..,cold rinse and imperial a/s to finish..this flat bottom feels a little more efficient than my others, slightly different baseplate visually.. but a flat bottom none the less..and i like it..head heavy with the hollow handle, just let the blade do the work...have a great day, gary
I did not know that masculinity was toxic. P&G Challenges Men to Shave Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’ in Gillette Ad https://www.wsj.com/articles/p-g-ch...-toxic-masculinity-in-gillette-ad-11547467200

January 15, 2019 Karve D Plate Feather WDC-8 with Druida Manchurian MdC Vetyver Guerlain Vetiver EDT A much slower start to the morning. I have a physical therapy appointment so I got to sleep in a little longer. I had planned this shave for Sunday but decided to try the Colonia soap and aftershave on Sunday. The WDC-8 was a joy face lathering the MdC. The earthy smokey scent of the MdC Vetyver is fantastic if you're a vetiver fan. The scent strength is strong filling the room and lingers well after the shave is completed. Three passes and touch ups ended in with the baby firmly in hand. I am not sure what the reason but I always seem to get exceptional shaves using MdC. I am off in a few for PT. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.
Thank you, Perry! Bulk of my letter S are Stirling samples with Shannon's, Soap Commander and Soapy Science leading in. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I have the Oleo Shiloh in the duck fat formula and agree with you. Shiloh is a dupe of ADP Colonia and smells just fabulous.
this one is my second. the first one i got 10 years out of it ,but didn t look after it. rode hard and put away wet as the phrase goes..was my only brush i had when i used carts..it works.. not very dense, a little floppy ,a thick lather overpowers it.. but i didn t get thick lathers using williams in the cart days..this one is for nostalgia..
January 15th Gillette Flare Tip w Polsilver First Canadian Maximo Gomez SS Stirling Finest / Maple Handle Thayers Jeeves Tobacco Bay Leaf AS Everything worked as it should and I had a great shave to start what will be a long day. I’ve been getting easy, mild, super shaves with the ‘regular’ Flare Tip all week. I really should use this razor more often. Have a great day all!
Thanks Perry! Other than the 2 warnings, it was a good shave. I was able to clean up the 2 spots on my neck thats always troublesome and go south to north on my jaw line. There are not even any hot spots on the face or neck. Best shave so far, bitter sweet . So.. till Wednesday tp
Haven’t heard of that soap scent before, Perry. Very informative write up as always. It sounded like a decent shave, in spite of the blood, Terry! Another great pic, Jim! Your Vector enabling is in full mode...and working. Beautiful, simple shot, Charlie. Great job over the past several weeks with the Parker! I haven’t seen that aftershave before, Gary. Is it a new product? I trust the appointment will go well, Clint. A beautiful photo with great matching colours as well!
01/15/2019 RazoRock 400 Noir Plissoft Synthetic Shaving Brush Salsa Bowl / Timeless bowl scuttle Murphy & McNeil – Crann Bethadh Shaving Soap Voshkod blade Rockwell 6s – Plate 5 on a Weber Bulldog Handle I posted a little write up yesterday about the Murphy & McNeil order that I received on the following thread. https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/murphy-and-mcneil-shaving-soaps.61079/ I used the soap for the first time this morning and was impressed with its performance. Please keep in mind that I have only been using artisan soap for about three weeks and my main comparison is my Stirling Noir shaving soap. I know that there are many on this forum that are more qualified at this but I will give it a go. First, Murphy and McNeil soap comes in the same Parkway container as the Stirling. It is just a different color. You may be asking why I like this. As you accumulate soaps it is nice for staking purposes if the containers are the same. It keeps the den nice and organized. The Murphy and McNeil soaps will stack nice with the Stirlings. Yes, it is a small thing but I like it. Second, Lets talk performance. I dampened my RazoRock and swirled a small amount of the soap onto the ends of the bristles. I then lathered up in the salsa bowl adding small amounts of water by dipping the tip of the brush in hot water and then continuing to work the lather up. This soap was impressive. It does not take much. I actually thought I did not load enough but I had more lather than I needed this morning. The soap seems to build up quicker than my Stirling and seems to take a little less. The lather whipped up quick to a nice glossy sheen. Awesome soap! O.K. so whips up nice and quick but how does it do on the face. I did two passes with the Rockwell 6s on plate five and clean up a few places on the neck. It was a very close and comfortable shave. The soap was slick and left my face feeling nice. I purposely did not apply any post balm or aftershave this morning just to see how the post shave felt with just the soap. I of course rinsed with cold water and my face felt great. My face was not dry and felt great. As of writing this it has been about one hour since I shaved and the post shave still feels great. Third, Lets talk about the scent. This is one area I just cannot nail down and neither could my wife. It is not a strong scent but more of a subdued scent. I am still picking up just a little off of my face about an hour after I shaved. I like the scent and it is pleasant but I just cannot figure it out. Fragrances is not my strong point. I have four samples that was including with my order and I will give a quick review on those in the future. Would I buy Murphy and McNeil soaps in the future? Most definitely. Would I buy Crann Bethadh again? Probably not but if it was the only soap they offered I would. I think the Murphy and McNeil soaps will be a strong contender in the market. Y'all take care and have a great week!
