Continuing with unkind shaving products, I'm going to bash Castle Forbes creams.

I have two samples of CF creams - lime and lavender - that I received in the past in trades. I used one a while back, shortly after I received it and got an awful shave. I chalked this up to bad luck, bad technique or something, seeing as how so many people rave about it. I tried one of them again today and had the worst shave I've had in a long, long time. I'm convinced the stuff is garbage. My face burned like hell (the worst ever) when I splashed on Specik this morning. Unless someone convinces me I should keep it, I'll be giving it away to someone who wants to try it and hasn't done so before.

There's no way I'd pay $35 for a tub of shaving cream. There's no way I'd pay $35 for a tub of shaving cream that works like crap.

End of rant. Just goes to show that expensive products are not always best. I had a similar experience (though not nearly as bad) with Penhaligon's creams, which I procured samples of when I went to Chicago.

Sorry to hear Dom, I have had pretty good luck with the CF lime.

I know it wasn't the soap that cause the pain. I used Tabac, and I only shaved half my face with the micromatic, the other side I used a straight and got a good shave on that side, the Micromatic side looked like hamburger, probably my fault for not giving the SE the respect it deserved. Will try it again, just not today.

I have used the soaps, they work pretty well, but Tabac is just as good, and I got a bit of a tingling when using the Lavender. The scent is also very mild, they all smell pretty similar so no need to get all 4. I have some cream Shawn sent me but still haven't tried it.

which harris product are you eyeballing?

Not really looking at them. I have seen their prices and always wondered if they are worth it. I hold Dom's opinion on some of that expensive stuff. For $35 it had better shave me. I haven't heard too many people talk about them.

I got the CF lime at a pretty good price, and the scent it pure lime goodness.

I'd say stick to Tabac for the soap, and for the money I'd say Frasers is near impossible to beat as far as creams go.

Shawn sent me a sample a while back. It's definitely a very good cream, but doesn't offer anything more than TOBS.

I also picked up a sample of D.R. Harris soap from the store here before we were active on the forum. Haven't used it much because I don't like the smell so I can't remember how it shaved. I'll try it out soon and let you know.

I'd pick TOBS Cream over DR Harris Cream any day. They're both great creams, but TOBS is way cheaper.

Tabac makes it hard for me to spend big bucks on expensive soap. Especially if you just buy the puck.

I am really like the frasers. Not nearly as good as Connaught's but darn good stuff and better than a lot of others I have tried.

Tabac is great soap at a great price.

Think I have a sample of Frasers around somewhere. Need to give that a spin sometime.

I meant to ask earlier...was this your first time with a SE razor? They're a completely different animal. But my 1912 Gem Travel gives awesome shaves. Also, what blade did you use?

Nope, although I've been wanting to try the Arlington and Marlborough. I don't know why, except I've heard the Arlington has that fougere scent I dig so much.

If you'd like to get rid of the sample.....

keep clicking...I'll show you where you can click that pen! :D
