Well the Fuzzy bait doesn't seem to be working tonight. Probably etouffee (did I even come close to spelling that?) night on the bayou. In which case, bravo to choosing Cajun cuisine over anything I post here! Here's the reveal. I honestly wasn't going to make a huge deal of this but the condition it showed up in is quite remarkable to me. This is an eBay find that I didn't think was out there. I've seen quite a few of these since trying them last year but never liked the quality of the piece or the price they wanted, or both.

The worst part of this Kampfe Star is the dings and nicks on the case. That's minor, considering its age. The snap still works and as you can see, the lettering is quite good. But would you look at the shine on that old timer!

Not only is the finish in unbelievably good condition, it also includes one of the original wedge blades for the Star. It's in need of a good honing before it would be usable but there's no rust, no pitting, nothing that would make it impossible to restore to give it a shot! There were two others up on the bay at the same time, one with a case in quite bad shape and some clear blemishes on the razor, and the other was razor only with blemishes. Neither included the wedge blade and all were priced identically.

The back of that big Kampfe head is also in essentially perfect condition. I honestly had to just stare for several minutes when I opened the box and saw this thing. He had an "obo" on this thing and I considered offering a lower price, so I messaged him to ask if it did indeed take Gem blades. (The earliest Kampfe Stars don't). I waited about 5 minutes and reconsidered waiting. This wasn't going to hang around long. So I bought it, and he replied to my inquiry a few hours later thanking me for buying it and assuring me that it does, indeed, work with Gems. I couldn't be happier. In all of the razors I've bought from eBay this has to be the best bargain I've ever found. I wasn't expecting to find anything, but there you go. It's always better to be lucky than good!

They should stick to pushing their overpriced shave gear and stay out of telling men how to live. I for one felt a load off my shoulders when I dumped their cart razors and goo. Now I'll be dumping their blades too. Over 1 million dislikes on the Tube but they keep deleting dislikes and certain posts . Shame on them. That's my rant for today.

I enjoy mentholated soaps but I stopped using them when I use an open blade. I need all my senses including feeling the blade on my skin when shaving with a straight. I just save the menthol for after the shave or when using something other than an open blade.

Totally agree.

 

The leg bone seems properly healed - everything straight and the end healed smooth so there is no grinding in the knee joint. Now I just need to work on getting the muscles and tendons and ligaments working properly again -- I lost serious muscle tone over those months. And I suspect I am going to be able to use my leg to predict weather changes for the rest of my life.

 

well hello everyone,looks like i blew NB19, not even a month in, bought a weird german gillette tech,a gold rocket,and managed to score the proper case for one of my fh flat bottom techs. all good except for the no buy,,other stuff coming too..but later..well it will help with the EDRIO..will now be able to have a german shave..got soap, a/s. , wilki brush and blade here already.razor here soon..anyway, wednesday morning shave,speick soap and a/s,simpson brush, brit service tech, nice 2 pass dfs.no agro. all good.thanks for listening..gary ..

Rick, congrats on your first go with the shavette only. Sorry you drew some blood on this one. The chin area is my nemesis also. I'm sure tomorrow's procedure...er...shave will go better.

I'm still waiting for my Homer shave this month.

I plan to do a really early morning shave with my shavette in a few. I'll go for the C.O. Bigelow since it's a nice wake up. I had never thought about the menthol interfering with my ability to feel the open blade, but it is a reminder to be careful. Thank you all for that piece of wisdom. I've got an early morning outing planned with a good friend. Full report later. In the meantime, I want to get the Gillette ad conversation moving in the right direction. Here's my favorite ad. Indeed. It was the same two passes I do with the tech I've been using and it was just a bit closer.

Nice enough shave that I used it again today.

Even nicer shave than the last. This razor is a bit more aggressive than the others I have been using recently. It feels like I was able to dial it in today and get a great 2 pass shave with no irritation. Enjoy your day.
