Thanks Andrew! I'm over the hump and will continue for the month. If my technique continues to improve I might get inspired and think about using a straight. I've a half dozen I could use, a barbers hone, and a @Drygulch strop. Just need to self motivate and get with the Dark Side Program.

Same here if I group it with the Red Tip & Fat Boy but definitely my favorite Gillette 3 piece. Dale @PanChango is making me think about using the NEW LC to clean up a shavette two pass just by telling about his "good for two days" shaves.

    Here's the Rotbart.
disassembled.gif Very light with the plastic base plate and aluminum handle - 24.66 grams. Been too long since I used it to comment on how it performs. This one is in a slightly abused case with a single SS blade .
in case.gif If you find your similar type to be acceptable, let me know. I'm sure we'll agree on something to swap!

Thanks, Andrew! I've seen Fs on the bay but I'm not wanting to spend that much. I'll have to luck into one somewhere. Don't recall seeing an O for sale anywhere, so bravo on the nice score!

It definitely looks to be the same razor except for the cap stamp. I would be interested in a trade... PM me a wish list. :)

Haven’t had much time between working and a little family time, so I haven’t been posting much or really keeping up. But I was able to sneak in a great shave on Friday before I had to get back to work.

This is the second of three Bismarck Razor Works 406 razors that I have. It gave a near perfect two pass shave without any clean up really needed. I really enjoy the old Bismarck’s because they take a rediculously good edge very easily, and shave like a dream

My next shave wasn’t until Tuesday night, so with a four day growth I went to the third of the set, this one has some bad hone wear but still works very good.

Captain’s choice bay rum shave balm 24CBCE03-D7C3-4453-890E-CA57BBD1E2B4.jpeg

This shave went fairly well other than one user error starting the atg pass, so I had a small blood payment. That should keep the shave gods happy for a little while. But other than my mess up it was enjoyable to try out the new shave cream sample and the bay rum shave balm that was so generously included with my raffle prize from Joseph @Primotenore the cream was a little difficult to load on the brush but once it was loaded it lathered up great, and had good slickness and cushion, the bay rum shave balm also gave a great post shave feel, the scent was nice. It started out really strong smelling but faded to a nice level after a few minutes.

Hopefully work will slow down soon, having 38 hours in by the start of Wednesday is kind of rough, and then I’m going out of town working for two long days and hoping to beat the ice storm back to St. Louis.

That's a good question. I would say yes, they both feel the same. BTW, they do not "easily" pass the cutting the wrist-hair test. (Acronym escapes me)

One day VDH bowls are going to attain a similar status to Shulton Old Spice mugs. I've found them a little small to make lather but they hold a puck well.
I'm with you there Perry. I hesitated when Andrew had one in his Etsy shop and missed my chance. The WWII metals reallocation made for low production numbers so they are more scarce than E's or G's. Still looking...
Type H "The Hussy" is also one I'd snatch up if it's in decent condition. The covers tend suffer from plating loss.

They should be able to "treetop" arm hair with ease. That means it should be able to at least catch and cut the hair at a level above the skin..

Outside of the US, it seems like Gillette could make some really interesting and unusual razors. I have a bit of jealousy for those of you in Europe and the UK who have access to these pieces. Ditto for the folks in Brazil and Argentina.

Thank you for your response. Let's break it down.
how long has it been since the blade was honed? Don't know. I received these razors from Paul, @Paul76 and he said they were "shave ready". I believe him.
how many back & forth passes do you make while stropping? 50-ish.
do you use chromium oxide on the felt to occasionally touch up the blade? Not yet. I have a new leather strop and Chromium Oxide on order.
at what angle do you hold the blade? Hmmm. Guessing, 10-15˚
I wear a mustache and goatee, so, like you, cheeks are left to right, etc.
I have a sneaking suspicion, that when I get my new strop and some Chromium oxide, I will be able to get the edge where it needs to be.
    I appreciate your help! :)

Do you mean my angle is too shallow?

Congrats on the Type O. That is quite a score

It’s hard to believe Declan is already 5 months old. He is growing up so fast.
