Aaron I enjoy keeping up with your shaves because you have proven over and over that economical gear can translate into wonderful shaves. The end result of the wonderful shave is what it is all about....no matter the price of the gear.

Yes it was the last year and the N4 was the last quarter of that year. The Super 84 and the Super 109 were also produced in 1968. The 84 and 109 had the short and long black handles, respectively.

This was my goal. I have no issue with folks using what they like, it's your shave, go for it.
However, I like to think that even a blue collar guy that doesnt have a lot of extra income, can still get great shaves.
I try to bring a little humor and levity into my posts as well.
I believe that this is a hobby that anyone can dive into and with great technique get amazing shaves!

I totally agree. Blue collar or not, a great shave can be had.

 

Good morning everyone! We didn't get too much snow last night and the precipitation changed to rain on Long Island, NY. Anyway, I just completed shave 13 with my Dovo shavette for this month(no 38 is my total). Again, I decided to do a coldwater shave. I am still using the same Personna headshaper blade and I have completed 6 shaves with it. It is still sharp. With 1.5 day stubble, I did two passes, WTG and ATG. I included a fool's pass without red seepage. Did minor neck and cheek touch up. Poked myself on my lower neck near the apple, but it wasn't a big deal. It was a scratch, but witchhazel stopped it. The shave was indeed BBS without irritation. Grade 95 = A

 

Aaron that is the nicest things about this hobby. It really has something for everyone at all spectrums. If you don't want to fool with soaps and brushes you can use canned cream. If you prefer vintage razors there are options available and the same is true for modern razors. For 10-15 years, I used the soap and brushes from the local drugstore with cartridge razors. What ever someone wants in a shave, I am sure it is available. I think everyone should enjoy their shaves in the manner they choose. I enjoy reading your posts daily.

Well said, Clint! I agree. Use whatever software and hardware you want to. It's your shave. Who am I to judge? @ordinaryshaver - you are getting great shaves with gear you enjoy. What else matters? Shave on, good sir!

 

I couldn't have said it better. In January 2015, the first month here, one of the members chose "cheap gear" to do a rule with. He was quite successful and it proved the theory we preach here. Technique Trumps Tools! It's great to have you here demonstrating the same thing. It's easy for people to get lost in the shiny stuff and start thinking it's the fancy and expensive gear that creates great shaves. It's the guy holding the razor....any working razor....that creates great shaves.

So I am putting off further SR shaves until I get my stones (spare me the peanut gallery jokes)
My razors simply do not pass the "shave test"
I take full responsibility for having dulled the edges. Bad stropping, lifting the spine, pivoting on the blade.
You name it, I did it...wrong.
However, I am stoked to begin the process of honing and maintaining.
Vintage Old Spice was the order of the day. Yummy scent.
Hot towel face prep, followed by face-lathering, another hot towel, re-lathered and the shave.
The Feather AS-D2 mowed down the stubble, slip-sliding away the entire three passes.
Ambidextrous shave again.
Smooth and soft. Ethereal experience, capped off with a healthy splash of the AS.​
