Excellent photo and setup, Jason! Quite a beautiful brush! Good luck getting the MMOC dialed in - I think you'll get the hang of it pretty fast.

Thanks Patrick. Yes, Rapira blades are fantastic!
Thanks Jason. The long-range weather forecast predicts colder than normal temps in the Eastern US while our western friends are expected to see higher than normal temps. I may have to go to Alaska to get warm. :)

Thanks Perry and Clint. Looks like we're in for some more cold weather.

The challenge with "cheap" gear is navigating the razor's edge between "inexpensive" and "crap". This is especially true when dealing with gear coming from China and, to a lesser degree, India. Chinese companies like Baili, Q-Shave, and Weishi make quality, inexpensive razors and blades. OTOH, I've seen some Curley and Ling-Jili razors at the dollar store which should be an embarrassment to everyone in the manufacturing and distribution chains.

Most of my own gear also qualifies as "cheap"; in most cases, they were eBay purchases which, while perfectly usable, are aesthetically challenged in one fashion or another.

    Razor: '46 Gillette Tech
    Blade: 7 o'Clock Permasharp Stainless (3)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Stirling Sheep
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Today's razor is a somewhat oddball post-War Tech with a steel baseplate (presumably left over from wartime production). This was my first shave since Thursday morning. I really should try to not go that long or, at least, use a new blade as the shave tends to be a bit rough with that much growth. That said, the results seem to have been worth it.

i put most of my gear in the cheap range because although vintage it is second hand/used..while i have purchased some pricey versions of these razors they are still cheaper than some modern premium grade razors out there..the most i have paid is $150..,once..

@9nein9. Thanks! However, most of the shaves with the Personna hairshaper blade were 2 passes and touchups. Now, if I did 3 full passes and touchups, then I don't think I would get to 6 shaves with the blade, but then again, maybe I would. I will keep using the blade until I feel the blade tugging.

I'll have to admit that the Ritz Carlton milk shake looked tempting.

One of the benefits of being retired is that you can hit the Happy Hour at Steak and Shake. We joked with some of our friends (also retired) about meeting them there at 2 a.m. once just for fun. Our new home has been strategically located with such considerations in mind.

This is hands down my favorite hometown ice cream shop. I've been going there since I was a kid, and it really hasn't changed. I'm always looking for excuses to make the trip. When I hit my target weight, this is where I'll go to celebrate. :)

I almost forgot...I'll hit either the Suburban Social Club or Mike Linnig's for fried fish before the visit to Dairy Del.

That is a great shave, Aaron! Might be cheap, but is still quite effective - and no less enjoyable. Well done, sir!

Hi all, been busy here, but got through the 487 post since I sat down and realy looked. Lots and lots of great stuff happening here :happy088::happy088:!!

    Playing catch up now......

Thursdays shave was a bit disapointing. I tweaked my right sholder again moving risers and set pieces Wednesday, so Thursday morning was tough. I tried shaving with only my left hand, uh, no good ( I'm right handed).
Having added another nick to the face I decided to use the trusty Fatip Retro loaded with a Polsilver. That was easy and smooth as expected for both head and mug, but the shavette was benched for now. Needed some nick first aid too. Not a bad leak, but there it is.
    20190120_141338.jpg
Fridays shave was much of the same with the sholder still recovering. My Fatip was more than able to replace the shavette and with a new blade made quick work of my wiskers. A three pass on the top too.
    20190120_141612.jpg
Now this morning I was wanting to bring the game up a little. So out came my brass Gem MicroMatic Open Comb,( MMOC for short ) and a new GemPersonna blade. Using the skin streatching I learned to do with the shavette, I did one amazing first pass. So amazing, that is all I needed for the day. Yes, one north to south pass and done! I could have went for another pass but why? I did one pass on the gord too. Honestly, the head could have used a second pass but my arm was at the end of it.
    20190120_141806.jpg
So back to the safety razors till the sholder can get back into the game. Just how long that will be, don't know. Been here before, just takes time.
So I can get back in the game later, I have some supplies bought up. :)

    Enjoy

Your situation illustrates why shavers need to be proficient with all the tools of the trade. Hope you feel better ASAP, Terry.
