The answer should be obvious to even the most casual observer.

Shaving irritation is always caused by social norms. Social norms eventually require partial or complete facial hair removal. If such method(s) involve shaving, open flames, or cryogenic processes, for example, it could cause irritation. Looking at it the other way....no social norms...no facial hair removal...no irritation.

This is yet another example of how social norms place a heavy burden on the populace. Cave men had such a simple life.

When you consider that, while shaving, you're not confining the action of the blade to just removing hair, but also to removing microscopic (in some cases, more than just microscopic) layers of skin, it becomes very obvious what causes the irritation. The alum/AS just lets you know it's there!

Totally concur. It's why I discourage any exfoliation or scrubbing of the beard. Razor burn is nothing more than skin that has been scraped raw.

Morning shave and afternoon posting. The Gillette Red Tip and Nacet along with Stirling soap are about as reliable of a setup as you can get. Bonaparte is an interesting scent consisting of a citrus and floral element backed up by a strong herbaceous base. Someone mentioned that Bonaparte smelled like The Veg, can anyone confirm that? Anyway not a scent I would wear on a date night but not one that I hate either. Today I start breaking in my new brush from Wild West, it is fitted with a Maggard 26mm mixed badger/boar knot. I did notice some extra backbone over a standard two band knot but didn't really detect any scritch. One thing that I found unusual was that it shed a bunch on it first lather, but I read a free reviews and say this is normal for this knot. Once it dries completely I will brush out and hopefully that will take care if the shedding. Have a great day my friends!

Wonderful shave, Andrew! I stayed away from Bonaparte due to Rod's disclaimer saying that no one would like it! It was tongue in cheek of course, but his warning was strong enough that I didn't bother ordering that one.

Thanks Perry! It's has a very strong herb scent to it. I think Rosemary and thyme are in the scent description and they are the strongest scent elements of the profile

I’m sitting in an airport right now and I’m struggling a little. When I was shaving this morning my boss called to give me some bad news. A woman that I have worked with for 29 years died suddenly last night in front of her 16 year old daughter and her husband. I have worked with the husband for 32 years and watched these two sweet people fall in love, get married, and start a family together. They are family to me and 51 is too young to die.
I wasn’t going to post this, but I need to vent a little. I also don’t want to see this become the reason for a runaway thread count. I am just looking for prayers for all involved. I know I have your concern and support and appreciate it.
