Haven't had a chance to log on and reply to this thread as life's been crazy lately. Holy moly...I don't think I'm going to be able to catch up being 200 pages behind!

    January - Shavettes and Jeeves!

    January 26

    Razor - Tosuke Kamisori
    Soap - Stirling Sheep
    Brush - 30 DC LE
    Post - Alum

Time to break out the Secret Santa gift and give it a whirl. It's been honed by Lynn Abrams and I'm ready to give it an inaugural shave. I feel like a kid in a candy store. I need the slickest and most protective lather I can make - so naturally it's the Sheep. Lots of water and the 30 DC LE brush to make sure there's enough to paint the walls with. I deliberately made it a little runnier than I would normally just to make sure it was like shaving on black ice.

I finally got the grip feeling comfortable and started the first pass. The razor feels good in my hand. Well balanced. The edge is - dragging a bit. Angle off? I adjusted. Seemed to smooth out. Went ahead with the right side and checked the result. It could definitely be better. Seems like it's not really cutting the way I want. Switched sides. Well, went right handed in traditional style on the left. Got about the same result. I did get some reduction but the dragginess never stopped nor did the result meet what I had hoped. So, I grabbed the Magic shavette from last night and got a second pass to DFS.

Successful first run in that I was bloodless and did get some reduction. I think we need to fine tune the edge. Lynn and I discussed that. He thought he could go a bit further with the edge but wanted me to try it before we went too far on the sharp end, which can happen with these razors. I'll get with him and we'll give it a little more time on the stones to approach that "wicked sharp" where I like it anyway. I think this is going to be a fine razor. Just need to get the edge perfected and also get my technique perfected. Once I have the blade set right I'll do a Rule to knock it into shape. Fun is on the way!

Keith, I am glad I inspired you to use your Friodur when I shared that I purchased one on Ebay. Your razor is awesome!

He did. He still does some honing for locals, of which I'm lucky enough to be one.

How lucky you are to have access to a great honemeister. I bought my first straight razor from SRD. It was a Dovo Special 5/8 full hollow round point. I took advantage of his going out of business discount in October. He may have honed it. It was sharp and smooth when I took my very first traditional straight shave.

It was sent from Japan, I was told that this Schick was a real close cutter. After using it with the B-20 blades, I have no ideal why he got rid of it, but I'm lucky he did.

    Good morning!

Another fine shave to start the day! Three passes to BBS. Silent alum. I completely lost track of how many uses are on the blade but it's going strong right now.

The Yaqi Mew Brown is a new addition to a growing synthetic collection. This brush has noticeably more backbone than my others. I'm glad I added an assortment of synthetic brushes to the rotation. I think going forward synthetics will be the brush of choice for work days.

    Have a great day! [IMG]
