Well Joe, all jokes aside, I went into electronics only to end up teaching colledge students how to run a broadcast station.
Teaching is something you have to like and it takes a certin type of person to be good at it.
    You all have my admiration!
    thanks

    January 27 - Blade Trial

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (3)
    Blade - Lamix Platinum Plus.jpg (1)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh #230
Post - Alum, The Mighty Veg

While awaiting another trip to get the kami touched up I thought I'd take on another blade trial. This is the third blade @Linuxguile sent me. This is the Lamix. It's a German blade, manufactured in 2011 in the Merkur plant and manufactured for the Brazilian market. It's a platinum, and the full name is Lamix Platinum Plus. I've read a few reviews and am interested to see how my opinion matches up. The Slim is on 3 for the mild trial, Arko and the JR230 for the awesome lather and away we go.

I was pleased that the first day on the blade was a very smooth day. No drag or grab from the blade and it seemed to be performing at least as well as a Derby on the mild setting. Not the greatest but not the worst. I did three full passes, WTG, XTG and ATG with Gillette Slides to finish the neck. A couple of times I glanced at the razor just to make sure I really did have the blade in there. Smooth is the word for this shave. The result turned out better than I thought it might with a high level DFS. I don't think I could have gotten a BBS on this setting with the Lamix but it certainly provided a shave good enough for any activities I might have. Alum proved silent which was a tad surprising given the severity of the Slides I used. I was pretty aggressive with those.

The final touch was the Veg for a nice refreshing finish and to impress the Mrs. who definitely has good taste. We knew that already, though, given who she married. :) Day one of the trial for this blade was definitely a success and I'm looking forward to seeing how it does as we ramp up the aggression.

Coldest temps of the year on there way for Tuesday and Wednesday here at HQ. Temps start dropping fast tomorrow. I have an appointment for a windshield in the new vehicle over in Illinois so I'm hoping the rain holds off until I'm back. Rain and falling temps in STL can equal a lot of ice! :Animatedfrozensmily: Have a great Monday!

Well, thanks Terry. I am somewhat of a ham, therefore, being a teacher was a good fit.

See, down here we've always kept them in the back yard. If you put them in the front yard, the neighbors visit a little too often. My great uncle was a tobacco farmer, whiskey runner and local mountain medicine man. He cured my whooping cough when I was a kid. First moonshine I'd ever had. I could have learned a lot from him if he'd lived long enough for me to grow up a bit. But I reckon the stuff he brewed only cured you for so long before it started killing you.

Sad to hear the Kami needs more work but excited to get more blade trials . Keep up the good work and be careful on the ice !

It's sinus infection time, so smell is not a factor the last few days. I can't smell a single thing, even if I hold it right up to the Ol' nostrils. So, it's menthol soaps to try and open things up and so I can at least feel something.

The last five days or so, it's been straight up Stirling Lemon Chill and Osage Rub. And hot toddies. The end is drawing nigh for this tub, so I may just carry on until I finish it out. I figure a couple of weeks more and it'll be through. It's great soap, so I reckon I won't mind.

I've mostly been using the Weck. The Dovo did make another appearance, and I'm starting to get the hang of it. Tonight, though, I deviated.

I ordered some Personna GEM SE blades from Andrew, and tried one out on my Kampfe Bros New York Star Lather Catcher. I think it may be the oldest razor I own. The blades I've been using were an off label I could previously buy locally. They were not great but I could get by with them. But this little combo? Man, I got one of my best shaves ever. This little setup will have me using a SE a little more often.

Keith, if we could ever see a group shot of your straights, brushes, and colognes, our heads would spin. You have some beautiful gear.

Very nice pic clint. Just missing the baby is fine by me on a rushed shave too.

    Nice shave Chris.
Sometimes blades matter, glad you found the Personna Gems. They are the only blades I use for my Gem style SE razors.

SOTD 01272019.gif With a synthetic knot I stirred up a lanolin rich bowl -n- a half of goopy wet lather. Took two full passes generally in a WTG & ATG direction. Scored CCS to DFS depending on location surveyed. No blood loss, though one set down threatened that gotcha feeling. Splashed on the very close matching lotion for a nice finish. Not sure what's in the Pinaud but it leaves a great face feel. Glycerin, maybe? I'm no expert but you can do 7 perpendicular lines in 7 dimensions. Kittens?
