You can never train too much. I used to dry fire and practice draws, malfunction clearing an hour a day with 1000 rounds of live fire a week. Now i train a couple of hours a week and live fire every month or two. Much like razors it helps to limit the number different firearms until you’ve mastered the process. Then anytime I change my daily carry choice I start over.

    Razor: English Flat Bottom Tech
    Blade: 7 o'Clock Permasharp Stainless (1)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Billy the Lamb
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

For today's shave, I went with a newly acquired English Gillette Flat Bottom Tech. This is my second one and is somewhat unusual. In the following pictures, my older one is on the left and this new one is on the right:
    IMG_0391.jpg IMG_0392.jpg IMG_0394.jpg

My first one is apparently a pretty typical one, except for the writing being below the centerline and the handle being a somewhat rarer variant. This new one has two very obvious differences. First the slot extends through the center and accommodates a full width bar on the cap. This bar is somewhat unusual in itself as the ends of the alignment bar are taller than is usual. The other major difference with this razor is the lack of a ridge on the safety bars. If I understand a post from @ajc347 correctly, this may be somewhat unusual in itself.

The overall condition of the razor is somewhat rough with what appears to be some erosion of the metal around the lather openings and the edges of the cap.

As for the shave... I only had a very small amount of the Stirling Sheep sample left, so I decided to sacrifice it on the altar of my mug of Williams. The result was a satisfying lather helped by the synthetic brush. The 7 o'Clock blade was chosen as it makes for a great pairing with my other FB Tech; with this one, however, it seemed to be somewhat aggressive. The result was a very close shave but with a couple of weepers and one actual nick. Part of me concedes this as a technique failure, but I'm a bit concerned that the edges of the cap may have been compromised, affecting the curvature of the blade. I will likely put this theory to the test next time.

Charlie that old boker looks better in pictures, there’s quite a bit of fairly deep pitting on both sides. I think twice may be all the punishment I can give myself with the Palmolive.

Thanks Charlie. I'd settle for competent. Knowing the skills transfer to SR it's a worthwhile exercise.

John I have learned so much about the various Tech razors from your posts. Thank you for taking the time.

Just got back from a weekend trip to the Catboat Owner's Association annual meeting at the Mystic Marriott, which included a tour of the Mayflower II restoration. When I say restoration, I mean only about 20% left of the original ship! This is the third year we visited the Mayflower II and I was amazed at the work being done by the shipwrights at Mystic Seaport Museum. It will be re-launched on Sat. Sept 7. I plan on being there. It will be an awesome sight.

Well, that's it kiddies. That was the highlight of my weekend. After watching this project for three years it's going to be exciting to watch her being relaunched for her voyage back to Plimouth Plantation.

I was thinking about technique and muscle memory with shaving and how a lot of handgun training is the same. Muscle memory is a large part of it. I have a S&W 686 357 but I just cannot afford to shoot that gun much. My son has a S&W MP Shield and it does a great job. It stayed with the Glocks and never gave a hicup. I borrowed a friends S&W MP40 with a 9mm barrel, Apex trigger upgrade to train with this weekend and liked it a lot. You are right about dry firing and practice draws.....practice.....prtactice....practice. Trigger control is something I have got to work on. Lot of great guns to look and I just have to figure out what I want. Lot of guys like the Glocks and they are great guns. I am just not a Glock guy and tend to lean torward S&W.

That is amazing. Wood ship restoration separates the men from the boys. Craftmanship at its finest!

I have both Glocks and S&W MP. I tend to gravitate toward the MPs since i like the apex triggers better. I have one G17 and one MP9 with Trijicon RMR setups. I’ve been running them about 7 years or so.

I do reload all my training ammo. My shop is setup with 2 Dillon progressive reloaders. This cuts down the training costs considerably.

RazoRock 400 Noir Plissoft Synthetic Shaving Brush
Salsa Bowl / Timeless bowl scuttle
    Williams Mug Soap
    Voshkod blade
Gillette – “Property of U.S. Army” Head (1918) on a Weber Bulldog Handle
    Nivea Post Balm
    Pinaud Clubman Classic Aftershave

Yes, that is correct. I brought out the notorious and supposed fickle Williams Mug soap this morning and shaved with it for the first time. I had lathered it up one day last week in the afternoon just to see if it could be done. I did not shave with it then. That was my practice run. I have to admit that it felt like Fuzzy was watching me this morning.

I dampened the brush this morning and swirled it onto the dry Williams and picked up some of the soap on the tip of the bristles. I then finished lathering up the Williams in the salsa bowl like I do all of my soaps, adding water as needed. I was really impressed with the Williams. It does take a little longer but it whips up nice and thick. This was impressive due to all of the Williams horror stories I had heard.

I lathered up my face and made two passes. The old Gillette head and Williams seem like they were made for each other. It was a nice close comfortable shave with just a tingle of alum.

I finished up with some Nivea and Clubman Classic.

I am now officially a Williams user. I do like it and will definitely keep it my rotation. Fuzzy is right! It is a great soap and I did not have to “molest” it get a great lather out of it.

Y'all take care and have a great day and remember Fuzzy is watching you.
