June 21-23. Like last year, Friday through Sunday though the "main event" will be Saturday. More details as they come together but we're ahead of the game a bit better this year.
Trust me - one of us will do something for you to point at and prove there is someone dumber out there. We're good at covering each other like that.

SOTD 01292019.gif On Theme as the month winds down. I'll likely get in my next every-other-day shave on Thursday. Thoroughly enjoy using this soap for the great lather and the scent is top notch. Pairing with the Limited Edition brush brings home that 30DC feeling. The Cashmere knot, much like others from APShaveCo (and Yaqi?) builds lather well, is soft on the face, and dries quickly like many synthetics. Might could have refreshed the edge in the blade holder. Had a little draginess, but I pushed on through. SAS or better with fewer missed spots than when I was using a DE early in the month as cleanup. Felt the desire for some menthol so I applied a shot of The Rub prior to finishing with the matching BoS AS. The two scents worked well back to back.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

I received a package today from @Douglas Carey. It is a trifecta of shave soaps from Third Pass Shaving Co. These three soaps make up the Hero's Collection: Redline, Active Duty, and Boys in Blue.

I am humbled by Doug's kindness and generosity. Every time I use these soaps, I'll remember the men in my family, especially my Dad, that have served our country. It's especially significant that this gift came from Doug, who is my good friend and a highly esteemed United States Marine Corps veteran. Of course, I'll be reminded of him as well. I'll also think about my many friends that are currently serving in the Armed Forces, Police Departments, and in the Fire Service.

The soaps arrived well-packaged in four-oz. sealed tins. The red, white, and blue label designs are well done and add a classy touch. The soaps include my favorite ingredients, which are tallow and shea butter. And @Paul Turner, they contain bentonite clay too!

Redline is "...Spicy, with notes of cedar and cinnamon..."
    Active Duty
has "...a woodsy scent, having notes of tobacco and rum..."
    Boys in Blue
is "...Reminiscent of a classic, masculine scent, having notes of cedarwood, lavender and mint..."

Thank you again, Doug. Your gift means a lot to me. I'm taking a break from my current focus, and Active Duty will be on deck for tomorrow's shave. More to come!

    January 29 - Blade Trial

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - The Canuck
Post - Alum, The Mighty Veg

Final shave of the Lamix blade trial. So far so good with the mild and regular shaves going quite well. The blade clearly isn't as bad as I feared it would be and that's a good thing. Tonight we open the Slim all the way and I chose the Canuck to whip the Arko into shape. That SynBad fan style brush really is nice to work with.

Three full passes and almost from the start I had a few issues. As long as I stayed on the cap things worked pretty well. Come off the cap and it turned a bit rough and even created one nick on my right cheek. Nothing serious but not the smooth blade from the previous two shaves. Unless I stayed well up on the cap. Riding the cap keeps the angle of attack low which partially negates the extra gap on the wide open razor. In other words - in an aggressive setting this blade went rogue on me. I do have to ask if it's because of a lack of sharpness inherent in the blade or caused by this being its third shave. I have another of these blades I'll try fresh on the high setting first one of these days to settle that bit of curiosity.

Alum was quite warm, indicating my feeling of it being rough and irritating was true. Interesting finish if only because it sets up the need to do this trial backwards and see what the true cause is. Now, as for the finish? Another near-BBS, just not as comfy as the first two. So no major complaints. It's just that if I didn't know about the other two results and got this one I might infer it's a bad blade. It's not. It's just a better than average blade with a weak spot somewhere. I'll find it out one of these days.

Two more days in January then it's off to February Favorites! Can't wait to see the stuff you like the best for a month. Have a great night and a better Wednesday! Currently 9 degrees F here which will be our high tomorrow. I still haven't gotten my heavy winter coat out. And I'm not gonna let this little dip in the weather force me to do it. I have something to say to Old Man Winter - :prrr:

    28th focus shave

Yesterday and today, I opted for one-pass plus touch up shaves. It's nice to know I can use these tools and come away with a nice, quick shave when needed. Normally, I use a new half-blade after two two-pass shaves. Since this blade is still a cream puff with low mileage, I'll use it once more tomorrow.

It was cold, windy and sunny here today. Temps are predicted to reach 6 F tonight with a chance of snow. Tomorrow's high is expected to be 10 F! I am retired, it is January and very cold, and I am not in Florida. That's further proof that I am el nutso.

I hope you all had a fantastic day! I plan try a new soap tomorrow compliments of @Douglas Carey.

Not an insult, enablers are good people. I actually have been guilty of it myself....once or twice. I also bought 100 blades and a razor from Andrews store last night. He has some great deals...just saying.
