Thank you Charlie for allowing me to be a part of it. The comraderie on this forum is great. We feed off each other with our different knowledge levels as well as the good-natured ribbing among ourselves. Unfortunately, there isn't a big interest on SR shaving in my "neck" of the woods. It would be great to have local chapters of a National Straight Shavers Organization, but there are only few of us that enjoy this activity to have such a thing.

Very nice, Perry. Have you used those new Soap Commander splashes enough for an opinion yet?
You've compared the new Duke 3 to the CH2 earlier, Clint, but if you were to have only one, which would it be? I ask only for scientific purposes...or as Neal says, 'for a friend'.:)
Great travel set up again, Brian. Any chance of getting to any antique stores on this trip?
Love your collection of new 'retro' brushes, Jim, and how you match the colours so nicely in your pics. Very cool.
The soap sounds like a winner, Charlie. Another awesome and generous gift/pif from a 30DC'er.
I find it very interesting how you can franzenrazor so many of these Tech parts, John. Keep the reports coming!
Is this your favourite Fougere scent, Mark? Do you have the SV or Valobra Fougeres as well?
    Hump Day! Awesome pic, Andrew.
Interesting observations on the vintage blades. It may be that there has been some degradation in the vintage Schick blades, or it could be that you just like the vintage Gillette's better, or it could just be that the blades were never very good! Perhaps they were just better at Injector blades?
-9 Farenheit? Wow. We were 19F (or -7Celcius) here in the Canadian Rockies this morning...
Lots of folks don't go truly ATG on their neck, Rob. It took me quite a while to build the technique up to where I can, and do, but don't necessarily do it every day or with every razor.
Love the Yew scales on the new razor, Joseph. This reminds me that I have a chunk of yew downstairs. Not thick enough for a brush handle, though. Lovely wood.
Sounds like a great month and a great focus, Doug!

Thanks Jason. Not sure about the blades. I will have to look at the timeline, perhaps the first ones that I chose to use were some of the first stainless blades that Schick made.

    Thanks, Andrew.
I posted on Saturday (with pics) that I had ordered some PermaSharp Supers from a vendor in Turkey. They came marked PermaSharp Stainless and not 'Super'. The writing on the back was in Turkish and said that they were made by Gillette in Russia. I surmised/opined/whined that they were a 'whatever' generic Stainless blade from St. Pete's labelled for distribution in Turkey and my not even be PermaSharps. They do shave fine, and over a good number of days, fwiw.
Thanks, Charlie. This one will be a Use. The other one? That may be a Pif, we'll see.
Thank you, Perry. Forgot to mention that the wood on both the Beehives is Poculi (Red Zebrawood) and I really enjoy using it.

Thank you, Jason! Yes, the Soap Commander splashes to me are top notch. Lots of face goodies (some aloe and other stuff along those lines). I have added menthol crystals for some chill. They work really well overall. Along the lines of a Jeeves splash but not quite to the Jeeves level. They have similar face feels. The price is a bit of a concern - $25 per bottle - but I got them on a 30% percent off sale near Thanksgiving. The bottle is a rubberized glass material that has good grip and doesn't break easily.

I recently got a shipment of PermaSharps from Amazon. I don't recall if they say Super or Stainless. I'll check when I get home. FWIW I truly believe that there are only handfull of different blades that come out of St Petersburg that are branded for whatever market then are intended. I can't honestly believe that the plant keeps up 30+ (or however many different brands there are) production lines. Just my opinion.

To be honest, it's not all that hard. Although there is some variation in the caps, you can pretty much mix any cap from a New or Tech. The problems occur mostly with the length and angle of the corner tabs as these can interfere with the seating of the cap. This seems to be more of an issue when using a random cap with a New SC baseplate.

The handle threading is standard with the only big issue being the flare at the top and the depth of the threads from the top. This only becomes an issue with bakelite baseplates and with New baseplates that expect a narrow collar.

Obviously, there are a few other minor issues such as FB Tech razors which usually require a cap with a split guide. These are generally obvious, however.

Agree with you on blades coming from St. Petes. What is the difference between Nacets, 7 O'clock Stainless, Astra Super Stainless, PermaSharp Stainless, Gillette Stainless, etc, that are all labelled as Stainless blades and come from the same production facility? Different edge grind? Microscopic differences in thickness? Nothing at all? Ditto with Platinum blades and all their different brandings.
As for the blades you have, if you ordered them from Amazon, they are unlikely to be labelled for the Turkish market. Mine have Turkish writing on the back and give info on an Istanbul distributor, etc. That is why I questioned if they were even PermaSharps. The vendor acknowledged most of this by saying 'this is how they come labelled into Turkey now', but was unwilling to acknowledge that these were different from Supers. In the end, they work well, I learned something, and I am a year safer in case of a Shaveapocalypse...
