    January - Shavettes and Jeeves!

    January 30 - Blade Trial

    Razor - Soviet Consul (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
Post - Alum, The Mighty Veg

Well I decided not to wait and come back to the Lamix to see if it was the blade wearing out or the more aggressive setting that gave me a less than great shave last night. Let's get the fresh one out and get it in an aggressively set adjustable and see what it does. And....if we're testing aggression on a new blade let's stop with the wimpy Gillette settings and grab a real razor. A Russian razor. The Consul, which was their clone of the Slim. The difference? A 9 on a Consul is much more of a gap than a 9 on a Gillette. The only way to make it even more of a gap would be to go to a Qshave (Futur) at anything over about a 3. I used the first Jayaruh brush I ever got - the JR46 and got enough lather going with the Arko to float a battleship. Opened the Consul up to full bore and went after it.

With this razor watching angle is a bit more of a challenge and necessity. I focused on staying with the cap and got a very smooth first pass. That tells me something already. On the second and third passes I just continued to hold angle and pressure and let the razor work. Where the blade was a bit rough and draggy last night it was smooth tonight. I could definitely feel the edge as it worked but that's because of all of the open air under it with that wide gap. I finished, though, with no blood and the alum was quieter than last night, but not silent. It rarely is when I use this razor.

I think we can safely conclude that the Lamix can handle an aggressive razor and produce a smooth shave. However, it also appears that three shaves on the blade is perhaps half a shave too many. Not terribly surprising from a German blade destined for Brazil, but it shows its only real weakness that I can find. If I was going to use Lamix on a regular basis I would probably go 2 and out with each blade. The problem there - the higher cost to them we discussed yesterday. Not the most economical, nor the best bargain, but they can get the job done in any razor, apparently.

One more day in January! I'm going to finish on some sort of shavette tomorrow. Not sure which one but I'll decide that by the time the day is over. Hope you all stayed warm today and have a great Thursday!

    30th focus shave

I will complete my 30th consecutive shave with the Parker SRX shavette later today. My focus began on December 29 and will continue into February. I made progress toward my goal of developing routine near-BBS proficiency in two passes with the shavette. I used half DE blades, except for the current one, for two shaves each. I completed a side-by-side comparison of Rapira Swedish Supersteel and Lord Super Stainless DE blades, concluding that blade choice generally doesn't matter in the shavette.

I nearly consumed a container of Soap Commander Love. The infamous doughnut has appeared, so I clearly have Love on the Run. (Yes, that could be a 1970's song or a movie title.) I also used C.O. Bigelow cream and Third Pass Shaving Co. Active Duty soap, as well as four different shaving brushes. I even learned how to get better lathers with the synthetic knot in my 30DC LE brush.

It was fun welcoming new members into the 30DC and riding along with everyone. A shout out to @NCoxSTL for leading this small band of renegade shavers, aspiring comedians, enablers, and Piggly Wiggly shoppers.

    See you in February!

Alphabetical journey through soaps and creams
    Letter S

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: vintage Personna twin
    Razor: Schick L1
    Brush: Artisan badger
    Soap: Soapy Science Unscented
Post: Witch hazel, Country Club for Men Sweet Water aftershave

Letter S continues with Soapy Science. Picked up this tub from @BaylorGator a while back and put to first use today. Wonderful, slick, luscious lather was created easily. The sheen reminded me of Stirling's lather. It set the stage for easy whisker reduction from the L1 with twin blade. Smooth shaving all around. Impressed with Soapy Science and look forward to more uses with it.

It's been a great month on the 30 Day thread! Time sure flies. My month was taken up with the start of the alphabetical journey through my soaps and creams. I'll be on letter S for a while and this will certainly continue into February. I've rotated through all my razors at least once and plan to continue that. Great month of shaving and evaluating my software. I'm going to sell or PIF some things once the alphabet jaunt is complete.

    Have a great day!
