Well I decided not to wait and come back to the Lamix to see if it was the blade wearing out or the more aggressive setting that gave me a less than great shave last night. Let's get the fresh one out and get it in an aggressively set adjustable and see what it does. And....if we're testing aggression on a new blade let's stop with the wimpy Gillette settings and grab a real razor. A Russian razor. The Consul, which was their clone of the Slim. The difference? A 9 on a Consul is much more of a gap than a 9 on a Gillette. The only way to make it even more of a gap would be to go to a Qshave (Futur) at anything over about a 3. I used the first Jayaruh brush I ever got - the JR46 and got enough lather going with the Arko to float a battleship. Opened the Consul up to full bore and went after it.
With this razor watching angle is a bit more of a challenge and necessity. I focused on staying with the cap and got a very smooth first pass. That tells me something already. On the second and third passes I just continued to hold angle and pressure and let the razor work. Where the blade was a bit rough and draggy last night it was smooth tonight. I could definitely feel the edge as it worked but that's because of all of the open air under it with that wide gap. I finished, though, with no blood and the alum was quieter than last night, but not silent. It rarely is when I use this razor.
I think we can safely conclude that the Lamix can handle an aggressive razor and produce a smooth shave. However, it also appears that three shaves on the blade is perhaps half a shave too many. Not terribly surprising from a German blade destined for Brazil, but it shows its only real weakness that I can find. If I was going to use Lamix on a regular basis I would probably go 2 and out with each blade. The problem there - the higher cost to them we discussed yesterday. Not the most economical, nor the best bargain, but they can get the job done in any razor, apparently.
One more day in January! I'm going to finish on some sort of shavette tomorrow. Not sure which one but I'll decide that by the time the day is over. Hope you all stayed warm today and have a great Thursday!
