You can get close to it. Find Tony Chachere's Original Creole Seasoning. Fresh little red potatoes & corn on the cob, add whole cloves of garlic, mushrooms, asparagus, and shrimp from your local freezer. Low Country boil I tell you what.
FF to 3:30 for the gory details.

It's funny when you were talking about crawfish that this born and bred New Yorker was thinking about this famous chef. I used to watch him in the 90's on PBS. I get a kick when he would shout oooweee with his accent.

I have watched this thread for several months and have been hesitant to join in on the discussion. I’m not sure what I’d want to do other than improve certain areas of my shave. Every time I think I have mastered an area, I typically find some way to improve at last.

I have been drawing closer to an affinity for vintage single edge razors. How could I use this thread for a focus on those razors so I could improve the shaves with them?

    February Favorites!!

    February 1

    Razor - 1960 (F4) Gillette Toggle (9)
    Blade - sharp-star.jpg (1)
    Soap - Stirling Iced Coffee
    Brush - Jayaruh #230
    Post - Alum

February Favorites begins! Lots of great shaves already today around here so I thought I'd start off the night shift with a few of my favorite things. The Toggle with Sharp Star. Seriously - can it get better? Stirling Iced Coffee and a JR brush - in this case the 230 - and there is no way this is anything but an epic shave.

I slowed down and took my time tonight. Loaded the brush, went for an extra rich and thick lather and did three full passes. Didn't really need the third pass. Just wanted it. Thoroughly enjoyed that menthol and coffee scent and the menthol kick his Iced soaps offers. The Toggle was wide open and smooth with the Sharp Star. Luxury. No other word for it. BBS result, and a great way to wind down a day that could otherwise be easily tossed. I feel better.

It's gonna be a great month, I can already tell. This place is smoking busy - I get to play with favorite gear like everyone else - yep.....EPIC!! Have a great weekend!

Welcome to the 30 Day Crew @Droo78
Start with the details. Which razors do you have at hand? Choice of blades? A serviceable soap & brush, a post shave product the suits your needs. and 30 days of your time.
Soon as we collectively understand your gear selection, it's all about technique.
If you need prep adjustments like actually getting the best lather from your particular soap... Which soap do you currently have? If it can be made workable, it's fine for a Rule. Or a Focus if you're ready to introduce variables for testing purposes.

Welcome! Glad you spoke up and jumped in! SE razors are great and we have lots of guys who love them, use them, and a few that use them pretty much exclusively. As far as how you can use this thread it's easy, really. Ignore the theme for starters if you want to focus on something specific. The theme is really there to keep us old-timers entertained. Our main focus is always on helping newbies learn technique and encourage them through that process toward becoming excellent shaving dudes. If you love the vintage SE (and I do too) and have one or two, just start using them daily and work on the technique to use them better as you go. I'd recommend you start with one razor, stay with the same type blade, the same soap and brush and turn it into a rule. That way the only variable is you. As you master the technique and the shaves become consistent you'll find them improving exponentially. Then, do it with the next razor. You can start comparing them to each other once you have each mastered. That's my suggestion, and I'm sure others will have some as well. Whatever you decide, feel free to ask any and all questions you have. Share your results, share pictures of those great razors if you want and just have fun! Glad to have you on board!!

February Favorites & Fat Boys Focus

    Colonel Conk Lime as PSS
    WTP Lime Burst SS
B-400 / WD High Mountain badger
    Suribachi bowl, cool water
'59 Fat Boy & Gillette Green blade
    Pinaud Lime Sec AS/EdC
SOTD 02012019.gif First SOTD on the first day of the month. On page 16? Keeping my eyes on the mid-month projections. This room is full up again and I enjoying keeping up! Started my shave with a slightly thick glycerine soap load face lathered and left sit. Rinsed the brush out and loaded the hard puck soap rented mule style. Face lathered over the Conk adding water until I liked the nearly bowl like lather combo. Fresh 7 O'clock from a tuck supplied by John @John Ruschmeyer, adjuster set to 9 on the #195, and took two passes. The in-between lather got a little bowl mixing to juice it up. No errors on the WTG or ATG action. Good blade feel from the Green Permasharp. My beard was light but I'm shooting for near daily shaves this month. This finished way into DFS and feels smooth as the Pinaud dries down.
    Good Shaves Y'all

When I was starting out, I picked a razor and used it for the month. It was very helpful. Welcome to the group! Have fun.

I shaved last night which is very unusual for me. I knew I was going to have an early and long day. In fact, my shave was right before last month’s thread was locked. It worked out well. I didn’t have a full five o’clock shadow until about four o’clock
It was a rough day. I acted as the MC for a coworker’s memorial service. It was a beautiful celebration and I made it almost to the end before the tears came. I’m glad I got to do this, but I’m exhausted. Good night.

Well Moose that was Aaron @ordinaryshaver that came up with that ideal. I took some polishing compound to the V2s head then waxed it last night. I've never had this issue before with a razor, looking at other razors I find they are smoother.
Doing another coat of polish today then try it out Sunday. I'm gonna use my Gem G Bar today.
Sometimes if your lather isn't right it can cause this, but I tried re-mixing soap with no success.
Don't remember seeing you around much, so welcome to the group!

    thanks

I am unfamiliar with the Starling, but with any new razor, you have to unlearn what you already know. It might take a dozen shaves to get the feel for the geometry of this razor. Keep us informed.
