I can't believe some here let that one go, without going some where, that doesn't have anything to do, with shaving.

Nice picture, John! Are you going to continue with SE or are you putting them up?

My "favorites", such as they are, seem to be an early 1912 and a Gem Junior. I think my big issue may have more to do with the blades, somehow. A while back, I tried an Autostrop VC4 with a Feather stainless blade and found it preferable to a Gem. I've since acquired a couple of Autostrops that can take a modified Gem blade, so a comparison test might be in the works.

I think that the reality is that my skin may be just a bit too sensitive or my beard too fine at this point in my life.

I do have a G-bar, however, and maybe I'll pull it out the next time I get the urge. That... or I need to do an epic SE PIF.

Thanks so much Keith. The blades are hard to come by, but they last a long time.

i had a similar experience with one of my english flat bottom techs..really shiny so it didn t need a polish.,just basic clean and sanitize.after 2 shaves it seemed like the cap would stick to the face if i rode the cap..thought it was a bad prep at first and was baffled,in the end i gave it a polish with mothers polish along with some others i had just acquired.not had the problem since..waxy film on it perhaps?.

try giving it a polish first..i have had one that was possibly preserved with car wax to keep the shiny finish while in storage or display..with hot water car wax feels a touch sticky..like a squeaky clean plate when you rub your finger on it..

Great pictures and write up Joseph. My first thought looking at your brush is that it could be a little floppy. Good to hear it is not floppy.

The connection between aerodynamics and shaving was discovered many years ago. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Being somewhat Acronymly Challenged, I google if it's something I don't understand. Keep using it and it may come into common use. Not like you stapled a DE blade to a popsicle stick and called it a razor. That would be MAYhem. ;)
