Never tried onyx for honing. May work because it's a silicate, but banded. Personally for the size and price does not seem worth since there are so many known stones out there that are known to work in the sub $100 range. If your curious go for it and post a review
Nats are a real bunny hole, IMO. I have no info on this stone but about all you can do is try one and see if it works out.
As suggested, give it a shot. I would think it certainly has the possibility of being a good, burnishing type finisher. Likely dependent upon surface preparation and lubricant used. Probably slow, needing many strokes for the best results. It will be tough to lap, the MOHS for onyx is 6.5 to 7, but once it is flat, it should stay that way for a long time. There was a pass-around I took part in several years ago of a clouded Chalcedony, a very similar stone to onyx. The consensus was that it gave sharp, smooth edges using oil or glycerin. Of course, YMMV with any natural stone. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
