I don't know what it is about my right cheek, but I frequently leave a few whiskers on it(as I've been describing in recent shaves). I always do well on the left, which I open with. I suppose this is akin to a sports team having a huge lead on its opponent so they feel they can ease off for while, but the opponent takes advantage by roaring back to make it a close game. More pertinent to shaving itself, I'm left-handed, thus that could allow for a weaker right-side shave(with the right hand).

Thanks Clint....I actually have two in that color and three with the white handles. They keep accumulating. I think the darker handle looks better and the flip cap appears to be stainless steel on the olive/black handle Feather Weights.

Friday morning February 8 - 3rd shave in Favourite February

    Rockwell 6s on plate 4 / Voskhod (3)
    30DC LE maple cashmere brush
    Soft Italian almond frankensoap
Alum and Hendrix Classics Barbershop balm

I have been shaving only every two or three days lately rather than daily. No real reason.

The synthetic brush whipped up a great cherry/marzipan-scented lather from the frankensoap, then the Rockwell cleaned it off my face along with the stubble. I used to use the Rockwell on plate 3 mainly But during this outing, I have been using plate 4. A little more blade feel but nothing too harsh. Certainly the alum has had nothing to say. Today was no exception.

The blade still felt fine, but this was the third use on it, so I decided to bin it. At which point I discovered that my Voskhod was actually a Sharp Star. Oh well, these Russians you know -- they all look alike....

This is the first "Professionally" honed razor I have used since switching to straights.
"Professional", meaning honed by someone who makes his living doing this work.
There are those out there, and I hope to include myself in this group one day, that are very
proficient at honing razors, but there are precious few, who can make a living at it.

Detroit National Cut Co. razor, which I found at a large antique mall, near to Danville.
There were actually quite a few to choose from; I am not sure why I decided upon this one.
In the back of my mind, I had heard of this company.
Apparently, it has a unique grind, a "double concave, invented by George Korn of Case Bros. fame in 1902"
This information was passed onto me from Glen @gssixgun who honed it for me.

So, how was the shave? I am sure you are all dying to know...:signs002:
It was a very good shave. BUT...was it substantially better than yesterday's Boker,
with an edge that I put on it?
Maybe a little smoother, that I can most definitely say.
Results, however, were pretty much exactly the same.

This last statement should in NO WAY be interpreted that my honing skills are better than Glen's. OR even close!
Glen has forgotten more about honing than I will ever know. I hope this is crystal clear.

He is a master and I intend on sending more razors to him in the future.
Today's soap was Asylum Shave Works Old Virginia. Sweet tobacco would be a good descriptor.
Wonderful lather as you can see:
    IMG_9282.jpeg
This lather shot is a lallapalooza! :D
I was able to perform a WTG, skin stretching, XTG left and right.
BTW, I am using my right hand on both sides for the XTG pass. Feels very natural.
I also made a few ATG strokes on my cheeks and neck, all the while the razor isn't dragging.

This is probably the best example on how Glen's edge is far superior to mine.
    DFS+++
BBS is in the future, I can tell.
The ASW AS is a wonderfully fragrant juice, with minimal sting (basically none).

Great shave and setup, Jason! Those brushes in both posts are stunning. The woodwork is fantastic!

Thank you, Jason! Rive Gauche seems a bit darker than American Blend, a bit heavier maybe. Hard to describe. They are close to the same scent but American Blend is more crisp and light. RazoRock made a Rive Gauche dupe called American Barber and I tried it a while back. It's very similar to the real Rive Gauche, moreso than American Blend.

Doesn't change my opinion of American Blend. It's still my favorite aftershave. The Rive Gauche amps it all up a notch! Very thankful to own some of it.

I've never been able to make any of my brushes look like an ice-cream cone prior to shaving.

Two passes, close and comfortable shave.

It was another quick shave as I stayed in bed longer than I should have due to my fat little Chihuahua that decided to get comfy.
